Default Calling KWACKERMANN...

Hey Kwackermann,

I just installed the 400ex carb on my Mo last night, but I'm a little bit concerned about the angle it is mounted at. Because of the throttle cable tube coming out of the carb, I would have to say the carb is tilted 10-15 degrees towards the exhaust side of the machine. Is this how yours is also?? Are there any runability concerns with not having the carb vertical??

Thanks!!

Yes- that's how mine sits also, albeit maybe a little less because I cajoled a little more verticle. There should be no runability concerns at this angle- just think as if you were riding on a hilside all day at that 10-15 degree angle. Other than that-- how do you like the carburetor?

I wasn't able to fire it up last night...ran outta time. Hopefully I can get it fired-up tonight.

Did you remove the choke from the 400ex carb?? If so, how does your Mo start (cold) without it??

Thanks again!!

if you modify the tank and head mount brackets by cutting some of it away and work the cable from the carb to the left side you can get it to sit vertical.

Hey, Mr mojaveaddict- I was just looking at your site- impressive mojave indeed. I see that you use 400ex spindles, dow you also use 400ex swingarms?
Thanks

No, the a arms and swing arms I use are ones that I build myself. I use the 400ex spindles to save weight, get a little bigger brakes and be able to run Honda bolt pattern wheels. I really like the steering axis inclination on the mojave spindles better than the 400ex, so there is no real handling advantage to the 400ex spindles.

as for the carbs, I switched from the 400ex carb to a fcr 37mm from a yz250f. the fcr is the best carb you can put on the mojave, it runs fantastic. It also has a hot start button that helps starting back up when it has been running. I had some problems hot starting the 400ex carb, so the hot start on the fcr is really nice.

Hmm-- I think I'll look into the FCR carb- where did you get yours? Does it have an accelerator pump? And, just for kicks- will 400ex A- arms fit the mojave?
Thanks

ebay
yes
never tried 400ex arms but I can not imagine that they would work as the frame geometry is vastly different between the two.
