HELP!!!!!! With '02 P650 rear end!!!!!!!
#1
I just went out to my garage and found a puddle of oil under the rear end. This is an'02 P650 with less than 300 miles on it. Has anyone had a problem with there's leaking? I checked the oil level in the rear end and it was slightly low, there appeared to be more oil on the floor than was missing from the rearend. I am going on a trip next weekend so any fix will have to be soon. Should I just order new gaskets and try replacing them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

A small amount of oil can make an awfull mess. I recommend just buying a thing of rear diffi fluid and just keep topping it off every two days. What side is it leaking from? Kawi wants you to replace part of the housing on the right side but you can order a seal only now somehow... I think you order the seal from the other side. Just try to keep out of the water too... oil comes out water can go in. You will also find that it only leaks the first little bit out and that's it because most of the oil is not around that seal.

-CORRECTION- I just took off rear plastic to get a better look, and its not the rear end. IT'S THE FU@#ING REAR SHOCK!!! I compressed it a few times and watched oil drip out of it!! Anyone know where to get one of these cheap?? This quad has never been jumped and has 307 miles on it!!!! I bought it last fall from my brother in law with 18 miles on it. (It was too fast for him. shicken ****) It has only been in one mud hole, the water was up to my knees. Other than that just trail riding. Has anyone else had any problems with this POS shock??

damn... you need to fix that in a hurry. Is it possible that it's leaking from the resevoir? You can get your rebuilt now... It was 1500 can for me to replace mine whe Kawi told me they weren't replaceable. I thought jumping causes this; apparently it's not the only reason. Kawi wouldn't cover it. You can rebuild it for around 200 can. I know I never wash that part of my bike since with a pressure washer too.

The oil is leaking out of the bottom where the piston (sorry don't know technical name) enters the body. I guess the seal is blown. There is info on NYROC's website about a guy that rebuilds them, I'll try him in the morning. thanks for your replies Kawi650

If it needs a rebuild you may want to give Axis and Elka a call. They can rebuild your rear shock so that its better than new but I don't know how much that would cost you. If its triple the amount it would be to rebuild the stock one back to normal then its not worth it. You also may want to check out e-bay and see whats on there. You could possibly find a used rear shock off a v-force, its very similar.
