dg snorkle just put in and cdi help jetting
#1
I just did the snorkle and the cdi at the same time the machine has got to seriously be running lean now right. It pops slightly thourgh the carbs and is a little doggy on the bottom (still wheelie happy). I want to do the nyroc exhaust mod and what jets sould I go with 142 and 145 or 145 148 DG reccommends 142 145 but? I am at sealevel and do most my riding at sealevel but do go in the mountains several times a year. What do you guys reccommend. Is there a site with detailed pics of how to rejet. Or just ask to watch the dealer do it. Any help is appreciated.

I just set my brother's machine up (P650)with the Dyna CDI. It is very similar to yours and we are at 250ft. Use 148r/145f. You will be close but still may be just a touch lean. You may benifit from shimming the needles .020". That DG snorkel REALLY brings in air. My P700 is running jets MUCH larger...just because of that snorkel......

Is there a site that has detailed step by step jetting instructions. I think my dealer would let me watch them do it. But I would like to learn on my own. Is it pretty obvious once you start doing what to do or ??? Just remove the float bowl screws and they are right there or what. It is popping back through the carbs now so I know it is lean and I want to do the exhaust mod soon. So I think going up two sizes would be best right I don't want it super rich since I ride at different altitudes frequently. 148 145 jets would work well I think for most of my situations. Besides I guess once I get it figured out then it is only on hour or less to rejet right?

p650/700, lets first start by saying we're talking about the 650. One should not assume the 700 and 650 will take the same jetting. On my 650 with CDI and snorkel and at sea level, I am just right at 142/145 and 2.5 turns out on the screws. It starts easily and I get no popping out of the airbox/carbs at all, even if I take off just after a cold start. If you do the exhaust mod, depending on how much efficiency that adds, you may need to go up to 145/148. Don't forget that the popping in the carbs etc will not be fixed by rejetting, because currently the only jets easily available are main jets, and the popping is caused by the fact we need larger low speed jets. My advice is to first take care of the popping/low speed hesitation by turning out your low speed screws. Then determine your high speed jets by how it runs half throttle and up. If you really want to dial it in, get a digital tachometer or egt probe. Lets not forget these are not 2strokes, and the plugs will not be dark tan/brown when the engine is running ideally. It's a 4stroke, and like a car, the plugs wont be much darker than white/light when running well. Its more of a scare in a 2 stroke because less fuel means less lubrication, but lubrication and fuel are of course separate on 4strokes =]
