Default which specs for oil?

Also Amsoil uses only superior synthetic base stocks in their oils. Mobil 1 uses lower grade base stocks. Amsoil has been in buisness making synthetic oils for over 30 years, they were the first synthetic oil on the market. Mobil 1 and all the others followed.

WRONG. Synthetic oil was used in WW2. I believe Amsoil came about 1970 but it was NOT the first syn oil. Torco synthetic has been made since the 50's.

EDIT: While synthetic oils are superier to dino oils going 25K on them with only a 4-5 qt system is not a good idea.

I believe that Amsoil is a quality product but it's not the best thing since sliced bread.

Oil is supposed to pick up engine damaging stuff and take it to the filter where it can be cleaned out. This works fine for solid particles but not for acids. The acids are in liquid form and cannot be removed by a filter, Not even the super dooper filter that Amsoil sells.

The only way to know how long you can run your oil is to send an oil sample out to be tested. This costs around $35. The test will tell you how much life the oil has left in it as well as viscosity and contaminants.

According to the oil tests I have ran on my Jeep I can run dino oil 4k. At 4k the dino oil is in need of being changed due to it breaking down and being loaded with contaminants.

My next test will be with a group 5 syn oil, the best you can get. I'm figuring that the oil will be loaded with contaminants at 6k. BTW Amsoil is a group 4 oil.

This group 5 stuff is $12.00 a qt though!

Chris thanks for the info, knew synthetics were around in the 50's but I did not think they were available to the general public. Text

I had to post this reply.

There is a oil filter offered by Frantz Filters that will prevent your oil from ever being dirty again.
Ive used it since 1968.My 68 Chevelle had 350,000 miles on it when I traded it in.

I only changed my oil 3 times while i owned it. And I never had dirty oil

And there were no problems with it.

I don't know if you could fit this filter on a atv or not.

They have a web site and great customer service.

Frantz filters worked good back in the day. Todays TP (yes they used a roll of tp) are environmently friendly which means that the TP will disentegrate rapidly when exposed to oil.

When the TP comes apart and plugs up an oil galley bad things happen.

Frantz filters are still running strong.

Scott tp still works fine.

My 95 Ram has 186,000 miles on it and still running strong
.
Everyone I know with a Frantz, wouldn't be without it.

tp has more fancy brands but, you can still get the good stuff.

I have found no difference in my synthetic that I drain out after 100,000 miles And the new I put in.
