Please Help Bayou 185 will not go in 1st and 2nd
#1
I have purchased a Bayou 185 from a co-worker as a restoration project. He informed me that it will start and idle fine however it will not go in 1st and 2nd gear. He said that you have to take off in 3rd gear by revving it up high.
Can some one tell me where the problem may be? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

Have fun ... You have to split the case to deal with the tranny. Get a decent manual and if you are mechanically inclined enough to try it go ahead and do it. Parts are obscene from Kawasaki for anyting related to drivetrain so I'd get it apart, see whats broken and decide by price if this venture is worth the effort. If all you want to is put around and have fun then this quad might do ya fine IF you dont have to shell out your first born for the parts... Get too into it and you'll end up spending enough to buy a 185 in decent enough condition to ride. The bayous on the other hand are geared low. Mild trail riding and nothing involving hills you might be fine with 3rd 4th and 5th... until 3rd gear goes...I just dont know on that one... You might be able to find the parts you need like a donor engine that has blown at a junk yard and living in texas you might have luck with that one. good luck..
