This is how flames/arguments start when others are misquoted.
And isn't the YFZ pretty much ready for racing right off the showroom floor? I rode my friends 400ex, and had the same exact feeling as expressed here. It was small, and felt like you could easily manhandle the thing as compared to the V. But then again, those bikes are made for racings..
A long day out on the trails, friend is complaining that his clutch hand hurts from all the shifting up and down.. I wouldn't know that feeling

lol sorry guys, I thought he posted that the YFZ was only half as far down the race track as the prarie was...my mistake!!!
I dunno, the YFZ works for me, size wise...It doesn't bother me at all that you can manhandle it easily...I actually find it comforting that I can manipulate the bike..

I am about those specs, mybe 155 and 5'9 and i have the kfx-400, its a sweet bike the best for trial riding, but yamaha is about up the cc on the yzf to a true 450 and i think if suzuki or kawasaki dont come out with there new sport quads before the yamaha 450 is realesed i might have to go with yamaha.

The true 450 didn't happen for 05, so I'm not planning on seeing it any time soon..In a few years, maybe. Bikes always go through changes, but the company likes to get them out on the market...
And delaying a motor upgrade is always a great way to give the company attentino, and keep the consumer interested...
don't plan on seeing any true 450's before Yamaha fixes comfort, and suspension issues first..
it may in fact be wise not to purchase the true 450 when it arrives...Either way, it looks like both Yamaha and Honda will be providing a 470 Kit for the 450's...So why spend the extra money on a new 450 when you can just up it to a 470?? Due to the fact of a YFZ470 in the near future, Yamaha might not even put out a 450 all together

By "Larger" I meant wider and longer. Obviously it's lighter, and has a lower ride hight. My question is, how can a longer and wider ATV seem smaller? Or does the Raptor seem small too?
You can rent YFZ450s at Del Amo Motorsports in Redondo Beach, CA. $125 a day weekdays, $175 a day weekends + insurance.

hmm i ha ve a kfx400 and my friend has a yfz , only thing i dont like is the dirt bike seat, thats what makes it feel small and the way the footpegs are so close in, im 6'2 260 pounds and i can pull the wheels up on both bikes in 1st 2nd and 3rd somtimes, i dont know what u rode or your skill but i did not have that problem, and as far as beating a stock shee yea it will stock but piped and jetted a shee will own it cause of the way 2 strokes deal with mods. The yfz is faster than my 400 but it should be, and yes its made for the smaller mx'er but can be fit for larger people quite easy.

In 1st gear I could wide a wheelie if i kinda poped the clutch, In 2nd i would get to roling a lil bit then pull the clutch and rev the engine to the moon pop the clutch and get the front end up maby a foot but thats it! in 3rd forget about it! Im a OK rider haveing owening a shee the last 4 years so it wasent my abilaty. It also felt like the prairie has more torque off the line...... REMEMBER THIS IS JUST MY EXPARENCE.....JMHO

I have a prairie...just sold my KFX with yoshi...and have a YFZ 450 (just got...havent ridden much)
First, as for wheeling the thing i can see where one would believe it doesnt that easy. Just coming off the KFX 400 and the fact that thing would come off the ground 1st through 4th with a stab of the throttle and proper shifting I too thought the YFZ stayed planted and was difficult to wheelie...then my brother who has a warrior, and is used to using his body and timing the throttle brought the thing straight up in 1st and 2nd his first ride...i know maybe he should have the YFZ. The other thing is the powerband on the thing...first time i rode it I was not impressed the first 2-3 passes...i was going by the sound of the engine and thought i was giving it to her...then on about the 4th pass figured out i had alot more throttle left...punched it and the thing felf like it was going to pull my arms off...that is when i decided i was going to buy it.
Thing is alot stronger up top then the piped KFX 400...but ridability i loved the KFX...however, i am going to pursue desert racing and need more top and better shocks then what my KFX had...could sell mine and purchase the one i have for appoximately a grand difference...far cheaper then getting shocks and the work to improve the top end on my KFX (well i do have to get the pipe for the YFZ)...YFZ does not ride nearly as nice nor does it have the controllable power down low...but the handling and power of that YFZ is bar none to what i have seen to date. As far as modding and beating a piped banshee...he has the most money wins...last time out to the sand a YFZ and highly modd'd rappie was doing very well.
To compare the YFZ to the P700 and believe they are close (stock) in a straight drag is a pipe dream...unless the rider of the YFZ is unfamiliar with shifting it will beat the P700...but honestly, p700 is the best quad made...can do everything and do it at great speed...good time to be an ATV enthusiast

bosx07... I dont belive there colse, The reason it was juch a close race with me is because it was the 1st time i have been on a yfz and my buddy (on my prairie) is al least 60 lbs lighter than me)..... with some one who has ridden the yfz enough to "feel" the bike and with eaqual weight ridders, the yfz would toast the prairie ( or probaly any thing short of a modded banshee for that matter)...
