kawasaki bayou 185 wont start
hey, ive been haveing problems with my 1985 klf bayou 185. It is gettings spark and gas but it wont fire. Sometimes it sounds like it is going to start but doesnt. I was trying to get it started the other day and it bckfired and thats the closest to it doing anything in a long time and when i used to get it started it would take forever to get it to fire. If anybody has any idead that would be great.

If it has been sitting along time, then the gas is probably old and stale. Flush out the old gas, and put new gas in, and if you wont be using that whole tank in the next two months, put some stabil in.
Lots of time the pilot jet gets plugged, if the quad has sat for awhile. The evaporating gas, leaves deposits in the small pasageway.
Try to start, using 1/4 throttle, instead of leaving the throttle at idle. If it starts and runs at 1/4 throttle , but dies when it goes back to idle...the pilot jet is plugged.

clean the carb. (take it all apart, clean evey jet and orifice, clean the needle and seat up). still dont work get some ether (starting fluid) and carefully spray a very small amount in the carb opening. try starting. still dont work try replacing the plug with a new one. just because it sparks when its out of the head laying on the side of the engine does not mean its sparking well when its under compression. just a few ideas

IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR MOTOR IS WORN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY BEEN USING EASY START FLUID . IF YOU ARE SURE ITS GOT PLENTY COMPRESSION AND VALVES ARE OPERATING AT THE RIGHT TIME , FUEL SPARK AT RIGHT TIME IT SHOULD GO , TRY PUTING A SMALL BOTTLE LID FULL OFF FUEL INTO THE SPARK PLUG HOLE , RE-FIT PLUG AND TRY ...
