On the rear pipe you can take it from the head to the muffler canister. On the front pipe I took it to the stock heat shield and then continued behind the shield to the canister. The clamps on the heat shield are so tight when attached to the pipe, it makes it impossible to get the shield back on with the wrap installed. I figured wasnt any sense in removeing the shield for that.

Im not sure what the stuff is HL sells. I bought my header wrap from guy I work with.

Just curious,

But has anyone thought it weird that that the fan runs at all after shutdown??? As far as I understand it, and I may be wrong, but running the fan and cooling the coolant in the rad is going to have little to no effect on cooling the machine if the water pump isn't turning right? Always just made me wonder about why (after I shut off the key I guess I expected the machine to shut off)

I think its an attempt to cool not only the fluid in the rad but to continue to push air across the heads..
KOD,I assume this wrap is available at most auto parts stores?

sask Rider- Every liguid cooled machine I've ever had, except a chevy, had the fan, run after the engine was turned off.

KLR650, KLR250, Raptor, P700, 900 Ninja, 750 Ninja, 1000 Ninja, 1000 Eliminator, Honda Accord, and Honda Civic ALL do that....

I don't know why. I've never had any battery problems because of it.....

NE one put a switch on their fan so we could choose to turn it off when the key is off. I agree and dont think it serves much purpose after the water pump is not pumping. I think it is really annoying when you want to talk or look at wildlife and the d$#$ fan won't shut off.

hey metallikev you said something about the fan running after the key is shut off, about how it continues to push air across the heads. i was just wondering how air gets to the heads because of the plastic that goes down behind the fan. air from my fan doesnt reach the motor it is directed down to the ground. i wonder if i took the plastic out from behind the fan if it might cool better since it would be hitting the motor too?

good point,I have removed the inner flaps for more cooling abilities..I dont feel that the motor needs all of that mud deflecting abilities anyhow..there are tons of other machines that let mud in there with no adverse reaction and I dont mud enugh to really bother with it anyhow...

Thats also a very very good point Metallikev about removing the inner fenders for better airflow. The BF and KQ700 is the same way already. I may try that.

You should be able to buy the wrap at any auto parts store. H-M Performance had it for $25. Thats a great price for it. Copy and paste this.

Air blowing across the cylinders and heads does nothing to cool the engine. Convection begins to take place after the engine and it's water pump have shut down. The coolant continues to slowly circulate through the system due to the heating of the coolant in the water jackets around the cylinders, and the coolant being slightly cooler in the radiator.
The fan running after the key is shut off is serving an important purpose. Don't bypass it.

wouldnt the inner fenders produce a tunneling efect to direct air over the radiator? even though the fan is mounted behind the radiator, the incomming air is forced through the radaitor and not around.even though some quads dont have the inner fenders maybe they dont run as hot. maybe the BF has a larger radiator than the prairie.
