I was racing a brute tonight on the second race my quad was making a noise on the flywheel side and then I pulled the cover the key was in a couple of pieces.I hope the rest went in the oil filter. So beware and watch if you have the same problem. If anyone has a stock key you want to sale.I need one for grass drags this weekend.I'll send money first thing monday

it's a woodruff key so most lawn mower shops should have them. i've gone threw about 5 of them.( STOCK AND CUT).

If the flywheel is properly torqued and the taper seated on the crank, there shouldn't be much stress on the key. Have you looked inside yet? Did it score the crank end at all? I've got a cut key in my KFX, so now I am nervous about it breaking. I never dreamed they would shear off when the flywheel is seated on a taper like it is.

Was it a 4 or 6 degree? Would a 6 be worse for breaking? Would a 6 be worth putting in instead of 4?Glad you got it going right away? The big question, did you beat the brute??????

travelor, not sure who your question is for but I have a 4 degree key in mine. The 6 degree should be just as reliable as the 4. I havent raced the BF since the key install but I can tell you it will take a lot more than the 4 degree key for me to make up 3 atv lengths.
