I'v had a 1999 Prairie 400, 2002 Prairie 650, & Prairie 700 and have never had to buy a part for them beside routine maintenance items. Before the 1999 Prairie 400 I had a Yamaha Moto 4 350. The Kawasaki's are Best in my book. My friend has a Honda Rincon 650 which is nice but he likes riding my P700 for the power & speed. Another friend has a 2002 Prairie 650 with 4000 miles. We have changed belts once and adjusted it once. It see's alot of farm use. I believe they are very dependable.

I remember one forum member saying that he had 5000 miles on his P650.....he whined and made a big deal about having to adjust or change the belt once in awhile. it sounded like that's the only maintenance he had done except for the normal stuff.

i have had my 1999 bayou 220 for i year now i change the oil and filter after every 2 times we ride because we ride har and in the creeks and mud all the time , I have already gone threw a new set of brakes in this time and now after getting stuck in the mud the main bearing is rattleing and it smokes and knocks I take very good care of this bike but am let down that this 5 year old bike now needs a motor rebuild. I advise you to buy a honda they have been around and last forever and have better designs. All my friends with hondas have No problems with there motors and trannys.

Hmmmmm, you say the bike is 5 years old..... But you have only had it for 1 year? Do you know if regular maintenance was done to it in the 4 years before you bought it? Sounds like you do some pretty hard riding........

Well, 24000km on a KVF400, 20000km on 650 and another 5k on my 700. For the little service etc... that the Kawi needs it makes up on better ride etc.... and yes with a little maintance Kawi is a reliablity brand if you take care of it.

Have owned Suzuki, Honda, and now Kawi. I am more satisified with the Kawi than the other two. My opinion is they all make good machines. Some features are more appealing and that usually is the deciding factor. Plenty of honda machines around here with problems. Plenty with no problems. Yamaha seems more breakable in my neighborhood. Honda does have a good reputation, mainly due to the success of the old 300. They have had some issues lately though. Some transmission problems with the rubicons reported in my area. Honda engines are hard to dispute on longevity.
