Dayco belt measurements vs stock
#1
I was checking this sight outclick here and looking at the Dayco belt they are selling. I started to notice how much difference was in the belts. Here is what I found.
HP2018 for the P650 list at 33.563" long and 1.125" wide.HP2017 for the P700 list at 33.375" long and 1.125" wide.HP2019 for the P360 list at 34.813" long and 1.145" wide.
Has anyone measured the width and length of ANY drive belt for the Prairie? I measured my P700 belt when it was new but cant find where I wrote it down. I just measured my old P650 belt and it was roughly 34.5" long measured along the outside with a string and 1.150" wide measured with two straight edges flat against the sides measured across the top of the belt. This is a pretty good difference in length between my old belt and these new belts from Dayco. Are the Dayco belts the same measurement as their counterpart stock belt?
I dont know. I know Im interested in this but dont want to waste my money. Any of the three belts can me had at that site for $35 shipped thats why Im interested.
The measurements are ballpark but are very close. I also wonder why my width on my old belt is wider than the Dayco to start with? I dont have my service manual as my brother law has borrowed it to read for the engine job Im getting ready to do. What does the Service manaul say about the belt specs?

I run an HP-2017 in my V-Force it seems to work excellent.
I removed 2 shims on my driven pulley and put it together and it squealed a little in gear when stopped.
It was too tight.
I replaced 1 shim (the smaller of the 2) and it works excellent. slight squeal for first 5 minuites then it stopped
deflection is less than 3/4 of an inch ( it all depends how hard you push on the belt when measuring)
it seems to rev better and run smoother. than my old stock one.
no problems with it yet.

some of my old measurements, from belt testing last year, with DWB...
650 belt...1.11" widest width, 0.89" narrowest width X 33.75" O.D., 29.5" I.D.
700 belt...1.12" widest width, 0.89" narrowest width X incomplete
360 belt...1.14" widest width, 0.88" narrowest width X incomplete
Belt A.......1.16" widest width, 1.00" narrowest width X 32.5" O.D., 28.75" I.D.
Belt B.......1.36" widest width, 1.14" narrowest width X 33.0" O.D., incomplete
Belt C.......1.43" widest width, 1.28" narrowest width X 34.2" O.D., 30.2" I.D.
the 650 belt went within 1/2" of the top of the primary, when deflection was set normally...
the 700 belt went within incomplete of the top of the primary, when deflection was set normally...
the 360 belt went within 7/16" of the top of the primary, when deflection was set normally...
the belt A went within 5/16" of the top of the primary, when the deflection was set too tightly ( the quad would walk in idle )...
the belt B went fully to the top of the primary, deflection was definately too tight, the primary clutch would not open wide enough to allow this belt fully to the bottom of the sheaves... the belt destructed before speed testing...
the belt C was too wide to mount, with the stock primary clutch...

VforceJohn, thanks for the reply. Let me ask you some questions about about the belt change. Before you installed the 2017 belt you still had the 2 spacers in. Is that correct? If so then was it squeeling on take offs?
Thanks Mike. Can you tell me what brand belts were "A" "B" and "C"? Also, what results did you get when comparing the three Kawasaki Brand belts? Was the P360 belt any faster or quicker?

I wonder if Dayco is using the same oddball system of measuring belt width as Kawi does? Maybe Dayco just measures the maximum belt width as opposed to Kawi's method of measuring an imaginary width at the top surface of the belt?

The width on top would make a big difference if all the belts were measuered the same and the Dayco belt didnt have the profile the stock belt does. More than likely I will just stick to the OEM belts but its hard to resist the $35 cost just to pay around.

I take that back. After thinking about it, it wouldnt matter. The only thing that would matter would be the angle the "V" and how wide the belt was at the top where the measurement is taken. Thats the way I see it anyway.

I am trying to figure this out. I have a Dayco HP2017 belt which is supposed to be shorter than the HP2018 belt. With no shims in the secondary I have 1" of deflection at best with the 2017 belt. I got a new P650 Kawi belt from a friend and put it on and it is almost too tight on the deflection. Didn't measure it but it was way tighter than the 2017 belt. Not sure how that can be?? I am getting my local store to get me another 2017 and a 2018 to see if it is a defective belt. The 2017 belt I have right now with no shims in is pushing the upper end of deflection and gives me no room for adjustment. Hopefully they can get the new ones in for me by tomorrow for my ride on Sunday.
Anyone ever gotten a bad Dayco belt yet? Sure seems like that is what I got.
I'm confused......
Here's the specs I just did, all with no shims on secondary and stock primary(all with 13lbs. of tension):
New HP2017 1" deflection
New Kawi650 .5" deflection
Old Kawi650 1.25" deflection

KOD, the standard belt width for the 650p is (1.15 - 1.20 in.), or (29.2 - 30.4 mm). ive measured the dayco belts i had (sold) and at the widest point was 27.5mm, were as kawi service limit is 28.8mm or 1.13in. the new kawi 700p belt i bought, i measured it all over. and i got a max of 30.8mm to 30.2mm min. from the dayco belt i lost 4 mph and gained it back with a new kawi belt.
