Default Please help with cam timing instructions

I have my quad at dealer to check key, it was right so as long as it is open I want him to retard the cam timing but he doesn't know how. I was looking for a simple explanation to tell him. Thank you.

Thanks kawituner, That was exlained very well. It looks like quite a few hours to do. Didn't realize the pulling cams. Can you tell a noticeable gain in acceleration? It is apart for the key so may be worth the extra hours to go for it.

Travelor,

you will notice a difference but if you want to get the max put a 8* key in while it is apart.
it will run on pump gas. 93 Octane

the only downfall is that if you want to install different cams you will have to reverse the cam timing or the cam timing will be off.

if you arent planning on changing cams after this go with the retard- you will be happy with it.

Just Do It.

TUNER... thanks for posting that... I won't personally do it, as I've already got FST cams, but I have been asked several times, & I didn't really know what was involved ...

there have been several forum members that have retarded the cams 1 tooth ( 20* ??? ), with excellent results... have you tried this yourself, it sounds much easier to do, & it sound like there are much gains to be had in the top 1/4 of the power band ???

I think 20* is to much but it may be better than stock but I havent tried it.

it would be a whole lot easier though.

For what its worth, I think it will be much easier to simply install stock v-force cams and get the same or similar results as repositioning the stock P650 cams. In fact, I recently bought some (used) stock v-force cams for a very reasonable price from Mickey D. I think that the price I paid for these cams is more than worth the trouble I saved by avoiding the procedure explained above to reposition the stock P650 cams. But that is must my opinion.

I can't wait to install my cams...I'm waiting for a chance to go ride my quad with the 22" tires that I recently installed so that I can measure top-speed, check for hitting the rev limit (doubtful with Dyna cdi), etc. and then I can install v-force cams and compare it to the perf. of my stock P650 cams.

Happy trails...

Kawituner, Does this setup work with the 4* key? I would have to order the Bigger key and want to get it together. Maybe I will get the dyna cdi to get the extra timing. Thanks for the good info.
