I am looking for a decent mid-sized ATV. I wanted to know if any one can give me some information on its top speed, rack and tow capacity, and oil choices. Thanks

I have a 2003 Kawasaki Bayou 250 and iv'e been reading on this site that the top speed is about 40-50 mph, the back rack on mine is cracked in the corners but the front is fine. I get the oil from a local store and I can't remember but i'm pretty sure it was Kawasaki's make of oil and it said 10-30 or 10-40. Dont know about the tow capacity but it should say in the manual. I have a Bayou 250. Cannot offer comments on speed or towing, but I can for oil. I use oil and filters from my local Kawasaki dealer. I run 10W-40 in the winter months and 20W-50 during the summer months.

 

The bayou 250 is a small machine possibly too small. The rack capacities are around 33lbs and 66lbs. Since there is no low range i would assume that the towing capacity is in the 500 region. I have ridden them and can tell you from experience that they really struggle even with the slightest burden.

 

i dont know if this will help but i have a 1996 bayou 220. i think i use 10w-30 oil. it is pretty torquey for it size. i think i have got mine up to about 50. i haven't had any probs. with it since i got it. hope this will help!

 

I know this thread is really old, but I just read that the tow capacity on a '03 model is 450 lbs with a standard hitch bracket.
