When to use low range?
#1
I like to use low range when going up some of the hills on the trails and also on some of the slower parts in the woods and what not but at what speed is considered too high for going in low? There are a couple points on the trail where I am in low and then it opens up a little and the speed quickens but then quickly slows down to where low range is advantageous again and I don't want to stop to shift it in high. Is it ok to be in low range for short bursts up to lets say 30-35 mph. I am trying to remember the exact speed I hit in low on sunday on the trail, it might have even been 40 but not sure. I suppose this info is in my manual but I am at work and it is in my garage somewhere.

my dealer insists that one should ONLY use high range when on pavement or going somewhere fast..it shortens belt life to use high when off road..that is the key. allways use low when off road..

most quads will go around 45 mph in low range ( 650 -700 Prairies )... the quad has safety features, that will keep you from damaging it, running "fast" in low range, & IMO, it is better on the belt to run low range, if you plan on staying 40 mph or less...

My brother runs his P650 in low range most of the time unless he's hitting a smooth trail and 35MPH+ speeds. I know he's got 1,500 miles on the ATV, probably more and he's on the original belt with no noticable belt wear or slippage.

Crazy... there is either something wrong with your CVT, ( bushings, etc... ), or your KBEC, or you are riding very steep mountains, or abusing that quad... I abuse the heck out of mine, & I'm on my 3rd belt ( the 2nd one only lasted 1 week, that's when I found out my secondary bushings were bad )

almost 1500 miles on my machine---put the black epi spring in around 300 miles---I run the crap outta mine and belt does not slip a bit---since putting the black spring in and removing shims, bike still squeels at idle in gear, but so what, whenever i am not moving i slip it into neutral----And i never use low range---seems to run too hot

MOSES... I think you are OK, with the 360... I use mostly high range, with my 300 Prairie, but I do think that the higher powered machines, need to use low range, more than the 300, 360, 400 Prairies do...

I'm still on my first belt with 3750 miles. It squacks on take off but nothing too bad. I run it mostly in low except on open trails. I usually shift out of low when going over 25 mph. Probably going to get a P700 belt but unfortunately here in Canada the Kawi dealer wants $190 CDN so that will have to wait until I really need one or I make my way to the US to pick one up.

I use high when riding across relatively flat land with small hills, averaging 20-40 MPH. Since that's what I ride 90% of the time so I'm in high most of the time. I drop it into low when there is alot of steep, extending climbing to do.
