Default 2002 650 Mods

I have a 2002 650. All is factory. Never done anything to it other than repair the fuel pump problem and routine service.

I have been lurking for years and have heard of choke spring replacement, things to make it run cooler, air box mods, and such.

I have left my plastic off for me to do mods while I have the time. Since I am a firefighter I have some time at work to work on some of these things.

I am planning on wrapping my exhausts with header pipe, opening the exaust up by drilling and removing the arrestor, and removing the carb heaters.

Since I live in Alabama we really do not need them.

So guys help me out here. I got her tore apart so gonna make mods while its apart.

Can you please post your suggestions? I know I'll have to rejet and all, but figured this is the optimal time. I really would like some feed back with timing retarding results and the air box mods as to if they are worth while or not.

My elevation is 760 feet.

Any jetting help would be appreciated. What about dial a jets? good or bad?

Thanks

Steve

Instead of me doing a bunch of typing it would be better for you to just look at my mods on my website.

I agree and Have looked at yours and nyrocs sites regularly for help. But would you recommend them all? or have you done something you wish you had not of?

I have an 02 & I'd make these mods first

Dana CDI , Holeshot, or Highlifter Module (tried all 3; CDI has 2-3 MPH topend over Modules)
Tires (ATRs or Bighorns) stay with 25" for better handling and performance
Front springs (Progressive or Elkas)
EPI Black Secondary; EPI Pink or red Primary (Red has 2-300+ RPM Stall)
P700 Belt

For a few more HP You'll have to rejet and also can add
Header Or NYROC muffler mod
K&N Power kit (comes with adjustable needles & K & N Filter; you can shim stock needles)

*Note the Dana made the biggest difference in bang for buck

tuffenuff has some excellent advice.

The only thing I wish I could have avoided was buying the C-Series wheels. I really didnt have a choice on that though as nothing else was offered but the Douglas and my stock front was bent up to bad to run. I would rather have either the type 5 or 6 ITP.

I would do everything you talked about in your first post. If I had a totally stock P650 the first thing I would add is the DG3 or "now" the Dyna CDI since their problems are gone. The second thing I would add would be the Elka springs, I think they are worth every penny of the $225 they cost me.

The exhaust wrap made a difference with heat. Actually everthing made a difference just some were better than others. I would say the biggest disappointment would be the degree key. Im sure everthing working together makes it make a difference but I just dont know. Maybe the 6 degree key will work out better than mine which is the 4 degree key.
