Default Brute Dead Zone?

I love my Brute, but, it has had since new an area from about 15-25mph with poor power. As the RPMs rise it takes off almost like a mild power band. More noticeable when cold but always present. I tried to turn out the pilot screws and it seemed to help some but it still seems to miss ocassionally once the engine RPMs level off at ~20mph. Any advice would be helpful. My dealer is 3 hrs away.
Also, How in the hell do you guys accurately adjust these pilot screws? Is a special tool needed? I can barely get my hands in there and forget about it (ouch) once it has run a little. Right now I know they are out from where I started but I doubt if they are equal.
This thing is just not as smoooth as my P650 and I feel it should be.
Thanks
