I was planning to replace the stock tires on my P-650 with Maxxis Bighorns. Is this too hard for me to do at home with a couple of tire irons? How do I break the bead on the stock tires? It seems like the tire could be removed pretty easily, once the bead is broken. Comments please, before I get myself into too much work.

 

I got my stock Tires Off But couldnt get 589's on or stockers back on, was first time I tried and I will Never try again LOL , From my experience take them some where

 

Tire shop will do it for cheap.....and will save you ALOT of labor.
To break the bead lay a peice of wood over the rubber of the tire and drive onto it with your automobile.

 

my dad and me did it like the guy at the shop told us with your truck car etc run it up on a board with the tire underneath catching the side very close to the rim and keep about 1lb of air in it and it will pop right off very easy you will get the hang of it

 

I have a bead breaker and all that crap and i find its allot easier to just unbolt the old tires and bolt up the new set that were deliverd on new wheels from rocky mountain atv [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

 

I hear ya. I did all mine myself at work. I put 3 sets of tires on 3 sets of rims to make life a little easier. My neighbor, on the other hand, takes his to a tire shop and pays to have it done everytime he wants to swap tires. To me, it ain't worth the trouble. For the amount he has already spent swapping tires, he could have damn near baught a set of rims and been done.

 

exactly. say pay your self 20 bucks n hour with one of them home jobby tire removal kits to swap 4 tires your gonna spend a few hours and by that time hell just by new wheels then you have that set of baldies for loggin roads or sompin when you dont wanna thrash your mudders or sompin.

 

go to http://www.harborfreight.com they sell a "portable" tire changer. Regular price is like 69 bucks but it's usually on sale for 40ish...... i have one and the first time you use it is rough. After you get the hang of it it's pretty slick!!! use dishwashing liquid or wd-40 as a lubricant to allow the iron to slid well on the rim and tire.

6 ply are a pain, my tire shop charges $6.00 a tire to swap them out. Well worth the $$$ and - the head aches.

 

the local shop wants 20 per tire!
