Default Huge design flaw

Man oh man, what a crappy job Kawi did on the air box. Its a piece of crap, lets water in like a siv. I got tons of oil in my water thanks to this stupid airbox, now I need to fix it. This design flaw forced me to get towed to the truck, embarassing to say the least. I made the best of it, I had fun getting towed back.

Can anyone show me how they are fixing their flawed air box? I seen some pics up here before, would like to see some more. Thanks.

Not doubting you, but I rode with a BF guy for over an hour in water up to our racks, no problems for any of us (about 15 bikes, all kinds).

I'm just wondering if something isn't loose or missing on your bike. Maybe dealer could check it out for you.....Maybe he'll be good for something that way.

I had the same problem. Piece of junk. I fixed it though by building my own fender wells out of inner tube. I also wraped the air box with inner tube. (SEMI CIRCLE) I put it on as in the same effect as they did, to help prevent splash. I think splash is the problem. Everything was exposed to splash. I took it out in about 2-3 feet after the mods and it was fine. BONE DRY airbox after pretty heavy.........Moderate heavy testing. It did sputter a little in deep water, but I figure that is from steam...lots of steam and too much moisture coming straight in. I think I fixed it ok. I will rig up a dual or maybe a TRI snorkel thing later. Didn't have the money to get hoses today.

Why didnt' they just punch out the Prairie to 700,750,800??
Thats three years of taking our money then release the new bike?
Dunno, I keep reading about problems..chases more away than draws in.
I guess I'll stick with my 650 until they iron out the bugs. Good looking bike however

I don't know forsure if it was the deep water or not that caused water to get in the air box. Me and my friend were also playing in a ditch with water in it going full blast in low range. I did this for about 1 mile, back and forth. Maybe this put water into the airbox and not the deep water??

I too noticed the studder under water, I'm going to put some protective grease on my plugs and see if that helps. Steam also sounds like the cause, these quads run so hot.

Default Huge design flaw

Just finished my snorkle job tonight. Went for a spin down the road and back and it never had a single problem. It never hesitated, backfired or anything out of the ordinary. The power seems to be as good as before and I'm sure I fixed my water problem.

I found out I had water in my belt housing too because it draws air from the same place as the airbox. If the airbox gets water the belt housing will most likely too.

I snorkled both to under the black plastic in front of the handle bars. Where the 4x4i sticker is. I will go for a ride tomorrow in the river and see how everything runs. The steam problem should be resolved now too, because the steam won't go straight into the intake and I also get colder air now.

I will report back tomorrow sometime on how I like it. I will be putting a prefilter on each hose to block out mud, sticks, leaves, water, etc from entering hoses. This will create a little less airflow but will prevent water from getting in, then I will have it complete. I can't put those on till I get back home, which might be Friday.

Got back from my test ride. I drove in the rivers around my house for about 1 hour or so. The water was at all levels, from 1 inch deep to almost rack deep. I checked the air box 3 times and I only noticed a few drops of water in there. Once I get my outwears pre-filter on the hoses I shouldn't have any water get in at all. The quad seems to run great too.

I was playing in a beaver damn, just a baby one. There was some deep water there. I went up the damn and launched a little ways off of it into the deep water, that was cool. No sputtering like at the derby either.

I think I have it fixed, only time will truely tell though.

Here is a post that started on behalf of a friend that purchased a BF you find it interesting reading. He had fender skirting made and it helped stop the mud and water from being sucked into the airbox. Yes the air box is a poor design
