Default Nyroc Warning

I laughed at Kisssofdeath because when my red 650 was sitting next to his red 650, I noticed we both had the same bad ball joint. But, mine wasn't a ball joint, it was the a-arm bushings. They are a lot more expensive than the balljoint. So, I guess Kissofdeath gets the last laugh.

Anyway, I wanted to warn you guys about the swingarm bearings. They are probably dry and rusting on some of your machines by now. If you leave them too long, they will go bad. If you take them apart, clean the crap out of them, and grease them, you will save $55 to $100 per side.

I am sure masterblaster will find a way to make these greasable too. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

I am going to grease my other side while I have this apart. None of it is very hard to do. I wish they were urethane and not needles and *****.

Default Nyroc's P650 A-arm maintenance

Nyroc, I have a question about the rear-end of my 700 for ya. Is there supposed to be some "clunking" when you let of the gas at low speeds, and when you go over bumps? It sounds like gears meshing together with a lot of play in them.

Any thoughts?

Funny you should say that Nyroc, cause I made my front a-arm bolts greasable about a year ago!! I had an annoying squeak in the front end and found it to be the bushings. I took everything apart, cleaned it and made the bolts greasable. You have to loosen off the bolt before you grease them so the grease has somewhere to go, but it works fine. No squeak and everything is still nice and tight.

Im getting my ball joint for 14.99 and the seal is 8.99. The rear axle seal is 3.49 but havent checked on the drive shaft seals yet. I wish I had mine fixed like mastrblastr does.

I want to thank you for the advice in the past Nyroc. I have aprox 2000 miles on my 02 p650.You are saying I need to take my swing arm bearings apart now & check them. I really am not wanting to do this.I dont ride much in water & mostly trail ride. But if you think it will save me cash in the future I will do it. I have no symptoms of anything wrong with swing arm now. I hear what your saying but have many machines I keep up & I get maintenanced out but want to do the right thing. Brushog

Brushhog, personally I wouldnt take them apart just to check them. If you go to all the trouble just to take them apart why not replace them and get it over with. As a matter of fact, just jack up the rear end and shake the swing arm from side to side and look for play in the bearing area. If you see no play, just ride it. If you find play then replace the bearings. I would start checking the bearings after every 150-200 miles since you have around 2000 miles on it already.

Thanks again for the advice,nyroc & Kissofdeath.I will do as you say. If either of you want to ride here in Mo.on the farms I ride & miles of gravel roads let me know.I'll put you up & feed you.You both seem reasonable to me.May ask you for a little tech help tho he he. Brushog
