Default BF "optional" front guards?

i was on kawi's website, the parts diagram, and under the listing of front fenders they show two pieces that say they are guards under the fenders or to something to that extent. the part listing says they are optional. it looks as if they could splash protection for the motor or even the intake. has anyone else seen this? and why would something like this be optional? especially if people are having problems with water splashing into the intake

i just looked at them again and they are listed as left and right inside covers, also listed as optional is the hardware which consists of clamps, nuts, and screws. on my brute force there are three tabs under each fender and that looks like it is where these covers attach to. whether or not they help in splash protection but it cant hurt.

GrizzKiller call the dealer and find out how much it's gonna cost us. If they want a arm and leg I'll make my own. Thanks again.

I heard these were removed because they caused overheating issues. I wish these damn companies would just snorkle the quads properly and all would be fine.
