HP Gain from Exhaust?
#1
My dealer has access to a dynomometer and tells me he has never seen an increase in hp from an after market exhaust pipe. Don't waste your money he tells me.
I have seen statements on here from credible members that say HMF and Penland definitely do make a significant horsepower contribution.
Does anyone have dyno or timed run info on exhaust systems?
Are they worth the cost regarding durability?

mucky: Do you happen to know if there is a Yoshi pipe off your chart that would work for a Prairie atv?
(from one ex-desert rat to another.....I grew up in Phoenix and still dig it)

I think is depends on what ATV you start with, and what brand of aftermarket exhaust you use, because some combinations are certainly better than others. I know that the Raptor and the DS650 both respond by leaps and bounds to an exhaust change, although with the DS650 it seems to be more a matter of removing the restrictive stock exhaust end cap than it is anything the specific aftermarket exhaust system is doing. The V-Force responsds well to some aftermarket exhaust, and not others. Diamond G Racing did dyno testing on half a dozen different aftermarket exhaust for a V-Force, and some produced good gains, but one brand ended up making less horsepower than stock (I could never really pin down Diamond G about which brand it was, due to fear of liability, I believe). So I would suspect your P650 would respond more to one brand of exhaust than to another, just like the V-Force. I would go with a proven brand with legitimate endorsement behind it, like the Penland Series exhaust by HMF, if it were me.
And I think your dealer is wrong to make a blanket statement that NO aftermarket exhaust can make a difference in horsepower, that is just wrong, and shows his inexperience on this subject.

Im getting a noticable gain in HP on my Prairie 700 with the HMF Penland. I also like the Torque insert or (TRM) That comes with the set-up. I think in some cases with slip-on Mufflers more noise is made then Horse Power, If your thinking about an aftermarket exhaust get a Full System. ~coop
