The Brute up against either the King or the Sportsman
#1
Trading off a Grizz and a Prairie, and want to know what two quads I should go for. Pretty sure I'm getting a King, and was dead set on a Brute until the magazine reviews came out for the Sportsman 800 - this thing sounds like a great overall unit, and is poised to beat the heck outta the Brute in the upcoming shootouts. What do you guys think is better of the two for overall performance, handling, and power? Please respond with as little bias as possible (I know its tough).

Well unless that 800 polaris is 75% stronger than the 700 then it doesnt stand a chance against the brute. I spanked a 700 sportsman like it was nothing. $8599 is alot for a quad. $500 in a brute and you got a sick bike. Just my .02cents

I believe the SP 800 is really 760 cc's. My P650 will smoke a Sp 700. Then there's the durability issue. Kawasaki's have proven to me that they are the most dependable. I must admit that the new Sp 800 has some pretty slick features, though.

i have smoke a few sp700's myself but i am curious to see what the sp800. I don't think the sp800 will be a speed machine i think it will be a older person all around toy. Like the rest of the polaris. But the predator is a great machine. Best one they ever made.

I owned an '04 700 EFI and I own a Brute now and I can tell you the EFI has a much smoother ride, makes a hellova lot more drivetrain noise and can't come close to a Brute speed wise, taking off or on top. It has a much nicer ride because it weighs 200 lbs more, handles very well, but to compare it to a Brute is like comparing a Banshee to a Grizzly. It's a utility, not a sport utility, it isn't going to win any shootout, I imagine the 800 EFI will be the same. It is only 760cc's. EFI is nice, especially with the carb probs the Brute has, but if you want to go fast, quick.....get the Brute.

they came out with the 700EFI in June of '04. I bought one and totaled it in Sept It would wheelie easy in low but would not wheelie in high. top speed I saw 65MPH, of course others claim higher but who has a mile to get it up there lol.

Just so you know, EFI is not "true" EFI. It doesn't adjusting to the current elevation, its currently a gimmick, they should call it electronic choke or something, lol.

I just bought a new Brute and love it. My dealer carried both the BF and Polaris. Personally I can't ever see the polaris being faster or even more powerful than a BF. The polaris has almost 200 pounds of extra weight right out of the gate I guess if a person wanted to compare you could just put 200 pounds of lead bars on a BF and drive it. Also the cost almost 1000.00 more to start with put that money in your BF and the sky is the limit. The term EFI is miss used it should be TBI the same system we had back in the 80's on cars and trucks. For EFI it will have electronic fuel injectors no carb. When it comes to a true EFI I don't think I personally would ever want one, with that comes some very pricey parts and many more things that can go wrong. Makes me wonder what a MAF unit would cost on a Quad. I really think the BF gives you the most for your money as well as dependability and performance.

believe me, if you hook a Polaris 700EFI tail to tail with a Brute Force and both bikes can get traction, like on the street, the EFI will pull the Brute backwards, it's geared completely different. and the Brute will smoke the EFI in a race. I used to pull a 2400 lb trailer around the yard with my 700EFI, if I tried to pull that weight with the puny little hitch the Brute has, I am sure it would collapse. they're two different animals.
