Default Degree Key and Module

I am running a nabor module right now and want to try a degree key. I can pick up either a 4 or 6 degree key from my dealer. Which should I get? Will they both work fine with the module? I would like to keep on running regular 87 octane pump gas... will that work as well (when I am running the key and the module)?

I guess in short if I had to pick one to work with regular pump gas which should I get?

Thanks in advance!

I doubt you'll need to run a higher octane fuel with those mods. What kind of bike is thison anyway?

The bike is an 04 Suzuki Twin Peaks 700. Alltoys - the person I was buying the key from was really leaning me towards a a 3 degree key rather that a 4 or even a 6. Was he just trying to be safe or what? I am at 1500 ft from sea level give or take a couple hundred but never ranging below 1000 or above 2000 if it makes a difference.

While I got you guys here - just wondering what size mains you thinkn I should run with a K&N and the muffler mod. currently I am running 142/145 do you think I can try the intake mod with these mains? I thinking I may be on the rich side now.

Thanks Again!

I was asking about your elevation because it will make a difference on any engine. As the altitude increases, you can generally get away with higher compression and more advanced timing without any problems. I used to have a '73 Z-28 that I had increased the compression to 10.7:1. At 4500' I could run regular pump gas and basically any timing I wanted and it would never ping. But when I drove it at 1500' on regular gas, it sounded like it was going to blow up. Altitude makes a huge difference.

I wish I could give you my two cents at your elevation, but I can' t help you much if you're between 1000' and 2000'. I ride between 4500' and 11000'. My only comment might be to listen to advice from guys that are at your altitude or below...or have at least ridden a fair amount at your altitude.

Good luck!

Saskrider,
142/145 should be good with intake and exhaust modifications. You can run up to 36* on pump gas up to 75HP then you will have to drop down to 33*-34* with higher compression than 11 to 1. Stock engine with only intake and exhaust opened up will work fine with a 6* degree key the motor will favor slightly higer timing advance. You must also remember the cdi retards the timing past 6500 even though you have installed a key.
Alisons; has a point as well about elevation HP will drop as well as jet size. You will have to do a spark plug test to be sure of your jet size that is the only basic test without the use of a dyno.

Hey Alltoys...you're only at 2200 ft. above sea level? I'd have thought you were closer to 4000' around Calgary.
