BF 4wd

ok..the book on the bike says you have to stop to shift from 2 to 4 wd. do you really have to stop. I mean if i'm going 5 mph do i have to stop are can i shift without damage. thats the one thing i wish they would have taken from honda, you can shift on the fly on a honda if your going 7 mph or less. its just a pain in the A$$ to stop each time and if someone is behind me it slows the whole line up down

Yeah, sure you can shift on the fly with the brute, as long as it is going around 11mph or less i believe . Same goes for shifting down into 2wd. It is however better to stop to engage 4wd but if you really dont want to its not a must.

I am a new BF750 owner having only about 12 hours on my machine and I read that in the manual too. I have tried to obey and not shift into 4WD while moving. Problem is I stop, click the switch over to 4WD and nothing happens. I have to hit the gas a few times before it will go into 4WD. So even when I'm trying to obey I still wind up being in motion when it shifts. As long as the speeds are slow...I wouldn't sweat it.

Ive noticed that it works fine if you are driving. But when you are spinning in the mud it grinds hard. Its done that to me 2 times. But while im driving its never made any noise.

I believe the 4WD system is the same on the BF as that on the 700 prairie. With my 700prairie, it will go in and out of 4WD from about 12mph or less. If I am going say 20mph and try to shift it into 4WD, it doesn't do it until I slow down to about the 12-13mph range. I have 166 hrs and 890miles and have never had any problem with it.
