Default 0 to 55 mph?

WHat can I do to make my quad quicker to around 55 mph? I don't care what my top speed ends up cuz I rarely get there anyway. I love the way my bike explodes off of the line but it seems to take a while to build up after about 40 mph. What can I do?

Let me say this though. After reading about clutch mods and lathes and the like I am thinking nothing that drastic. Maybe spring changes or ???

lose some weight!! I know I know..the prarie is already one of the lightest utes around...but if you can manage to lose some rotational weight you can get up to speed faster...a clutch spring change would get you there faster, a cdi maybe....

a cdi would help, your stock ingnition starts to retard the timing at that rpm/speed. where as the cdi doesnt.

Nah, a full exhaust is not needed for the Prairie, but a slip works well. A spring change is a definet must, and the CDI too.

Vtwinriot, Looks like you have the timing and dg3. You have a modded exhaust so maybe you should try more air with air box mod and filter, If you still have your stock tires on stock rims, give them a try. It will reduce your rotating weight making it faster.

vtwinriot - you have what you need to get to 55mph quickly; check you tuning. The only thing I would add would be to retard the cam timing; that will really wake it up beyond 50mph.

I am afraid to try messing with my tuning cuz it is really running good. The reason I say this is I have read where guys have done the napa mod and a twin air filter and had trouble getting the jetting right. How much would the Napa mod and an aftermarket filter help?
Also I don't have anywhere to run it up to speed and shut it down to check my plugs so any jetting changes will be in the blind.

One thing is that when she is cold it will pop through the air box occaisionally and puff light blue smoke when the throttle is stabbed.
Valves maybe since I didn't have them checked yet? 102 hrs I know is too long to wait but......

Retard the timing? I just advanced (at least I thought that is what I was doing) it 4 degrees. How is this done and what will it help?

Also clutch spring changes..... are you guys talking about the front clutch assembly? If so how difficult is that?

Retarding the cam timing is like you have a v force cam. You still need the engine timing advanced. It is easy to change primary spring.
