Default broken brute

My cousin has a Brute and has had many problems in three months. I rode with him Sunday and had to tow him home with my Rincon!!! I thought the Brute was tougher. He has 550 kms on it and has been towed three times in 6 or 7 rides. He is having belt problems and the bike goes in to 'limp home mode' I guess. He cannot go over 12 kmh and 2wd only. He mentioned a switch inside the belt cover. I guess the belt gets loose and hits it or something. Sunday was the 2nd time this ruined his ride. It also was not covered under warranty. He had to pay because they said it was an adjustment!!! And now a second time 250 km later!?!?! Is that normal? It seems weird to me. He also replaced the head gasket. Is everyone else having problems? My cousin is debating unloadinging it already!

Sounds like operator error , does he know it must me kept in low when riding slow , 20mph or less is good and definitely not go go through mud in high range , I have not heard of a single BF having belt problems in any of the forums. If he gets the belt deflection set right and rides in the gear range he should there won't be any problems.

No such problems with mine. No offence or anything, but seriously, the belt thing may be operator error!

My 02 650 prairie did the same thing when I came down a hill and hit the brakes and throttle at the same by accident. I limped home in the same situation as your cousin . The belt must of looped up and hit the switch on me it happened 2 times to me but it was my fault I thought. I ended up clutching it and adjusting the deflection and never had the prob. again. ALL the brands have probs. with quality control, you would think by now in this day and age that would be a thing of the past , too bad well tell your cousin good luck and sometimes you do have to just bail, my freind owned 2 polaris quads 500 and 700 sportsman he had these at the same time , he would ride one one weekend put it in the shop and ride the other the next . Every weekend the same thing, poor SOB was going broke , this went on for like 2 years, I finally talked him in to the 750 BF and he couldnt be happier, im not brand bashing. This really did happen I swear the guy has a black cloud over him.

install the cdi box by dyna, not only will it give more power, it also disables the limp mode, if its just a switch problem he's having.

Just reset the switch or loop the wires together so it thinks the switch is closed. Adjust your belt because it sounds out to me. But learn the rest procedure and you won't have to limp home. I'd rather push home a Ford than be towed by a chevy. hehehe.

Hey listen to the Davinator ,, the process is actually reversing the plug of the sensor turn the key on for ten seconds then turn off put back correct then adjust belt tension, also there was a recall on some of the 700 praires belt pully system check it out further adn make sure the plug is inthe belt cases or every time you ride through water the belt gets wet and will engage the sensor thus causing limp home syndrome brute happy

This is not normal, and hey I can't see how you can claim operator error. Whats with all this "KM" talk man, doesn't this machine have "MI" on it? So if this has happened 6-7 times in what 700KM or 3-400mi, there is something wrong. Even if the guy isn't in low when he should be, unless he's pulling a hell of a load, or driving with the parking brake on, or getting the belt wet, it shouldn't be burning up belts. There seems to be something wrong with the clutch or drive train I would think. Sounds like if the dealer claimed no coverage, he must have ignored the break in belt adjustment, not good either.
