Default Trade YFZ450 for V-force?

I've got a 2004 YFZ450 which I've never been extremely happy with. Don't get me wrong, it's everything it's supposed to be, it's just not the right quad for me. Maybe I'm getting too old for a race quad. The things I like: extremely fast, handles great, lightweight. Things I don't like: rides rough, no reverse, and hard to ride leisurely along the trail. I've been kicking around the idea of selling it and purchasing a V-force. I really like the idea of the auto clutch and it feels really plush. Would I be happy with the V-force? My YFZ is in really good shape and has a few extras: Yoshimura pipe, K&N filter, EHS air box cover, PRM skids, GYTR heal guards...etc. I wonder how much extra I would have to put in to trade for a new V-force? Anyone interested in trading?

I would be willing to bet you could buy some new shocks(or get your stockers revalved/sprung) and gear the YFZ a bit lower for less $$$ than you would lose in depreciation selling it now. I like the V, seems like a cool ride. Have you ever tried one out?

I've got a V and I love it. Its the second atv I have ever owned. Its got tons of power stock and its just soo simple to ride. The suspension isn't the greatest but it isn't hard at all. Its pretty plush in my opinion. The V has a lot less maintenance than the other chain driven atv's. Its got the shaft drive, wet rear disc brakes, and a belt which doesn't need much maintenance at all. Put some hop up parts on it and hang on. So far its the fastest atv I have ever ridden. I haven't had any probs with it (yet). Juat keep that airfilter clean, you got tons more valves to adjust, hahaha. Good luck with your choice.

You'll never regret it...Super low maintenance, sealed drive train, wet brake, awesome power (at least more than enough for the trails) and it's comfortable. I have ridden a VForce for three days at Hatfield McCoy and felt it was very comfortable..The steering is much lighter than my P650. It is a little loud when you ride for hours on end though. Reverse is a MUST in the woods. Surprisingly the V also handles mud pretty well and snow. The tires are awesome.

I have a YFZ450 and have rode a V force it is a lot heavier feeling quad. You could get new shocks and regear you 450. Or a KFX400 would be a good choice, smoother ride, reverse and still a light weight good handling quad. These a just my 2 cents

Have you tried dialing down the compression damping on the stock YFZ shocks? Those are some high dollar shocks right from the factory, and they are very adjustable. We turned down the compression damping four clicks on my son's YFZ and it made a HUGE difference. It felt like an entirely new quad, and was actually much better riding than my V-Force I had at the time. A V-Force feels fairly smooth at low speed, but starts to beat you to death at high speed, and has a utility quad rear suspension that will never be that good (even with a high dollar aftermarket shock). A YFZ feels stiff at low speed, but comes alive at high speed, and starts to feel perfect. The difference is that the stock YFZs shocks are adjustable, so you can also soften up the low speed ride quality.

I can think of lots of reasons to switch from a YFZ to a V-Force, if that is what you want to do, but suspension sure isn't one of them.

I agree with a lot of these postings...the thing you have to consider is what type of riding you (and your friends) like to do. The V-Force isn't a MX machine. Given the proper classes it is quite successful in GNCC racing...the results from last year speak for themselves (for most of us non-pros anyway). The beauty of the "utility" rear end on the V-Force is that...no chain maintenance ie. cleaning, tension adjustment, Sprocket wear. It is very strong and has lots of clearance....It is sealed so dirt, mud and water don't affect it. The wet brake is sealed and doesn't cause problems as you get into the nasties. No pads to replace. It is heavier than a YFZ450...no doubt, but they were built for diffrent purposes. It is a blast. Wheelies at will...you can fly through the woods w/o worrying about gear selection or slipping clutches....and it is "always" in the right "gear" when you hit that intimidating hill. This thing climbs like a mountain goat. To be fair...when downhilling you do have to know how to use your brakes and on a very steep downhill (read: mountain) you might have to blip the throttle eavery now and then to re-engage the belt drive to get compression braking (easily mastered). Again, both are great quads and probably the best at what they are designed for....just figure out how you will use them.
