Default Hot Pipes

well i put my fmf needles in my v-forces carb today, and set the needles on #5 setting, and added a washer. when i started it up, i could tell the difference after a coulpe of revs. then i took my temperature gauge and checked the pipes and noticed that they were over 400 degreese. is that normal? the motor was kinda hot too. or is it me or am i too cautious?
