Default lakota question...help!

ah....i knew that would get your attention lol!!okay....have buddies lakota in one of my garages sitting for about 3 or 4 months...i go in charge the battery for about 20mins choked and started it.....it idles fine but while it was warming up i heard a loud clack sound...i was on the other side of shop and went to investigate....it still running smooth and then again....clack! best i can tell it was comming from the engine....i tried to force the clack by reving but it seems to do it when it wants to....now i did notice that more so on deceleration...i started thinking back fire but after pulling plug inspecting exhaust checking carb iwasnt satisfied....what could make this sound?

history on bike.....put fmf exhaust and k&n and jet.....he rode it a few weekends...no probs....let it sit and bought a raptor.....so you know it sat for 6months....we goto start....it wont...so clean carb out and strip that cheap choke cable....but cranked up and ran fine...replaced the cheap choke cable with a new one still running fine....then let it sit for the 3 or 4 months i spoke of before the clack...thanks in advance!

Default NAKED!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be cuz the valves need to be adjusted, also when was the last time the oil was changed? My lakota never makes any kind of sounds but the top end does click a little, but all lakota, and bayou motors do. My bro bayou makes a click in the top end louder than my quad and it runs fine?

hmm...im sure that adjusting the valves is just like on a car....just a smaller scale...but wouldnt it be constantly making that noise if valve was tapping?

I dont work on cars that often so i cant really tell you how they compare but yeah the valve could be the problem i would just adjust them and see if anything different happends. New oil is a good start too.

Default NAKED!!!!!!!!!!!

when it "clacks", is the engine stuttering or smooth running during the clack? after sitting you can pretty much blame it on bad fuel, dirty carbs, or plugs. You can't always tell by looking at plugs, they can be junk new, yes new! When you cleaned the carbs, did you actually pull the jets and clean them. Thats the key, cleaning every little hole in the jets. Just making sure, some people's idea of "cleaing carbs" is just spraying carb cleaner in the throttle body and wiping it. The jets are the key. I've had many similar backfiring, sputtering issues related to bad old fuel and dirty carbs, fouled plugs.
