Kaw recall
#1
I recieved my official recall today by mail from Kawasaki. It is in regard to my 2000 300 Prarie's belt. It was a STICKER that I am to put on the atv.It says that unless I have my belt constantly maintained correctly by a dealer it may fail causing injury or DEATH! It may crumble and pcs.
may lock up the wheels. I thought Kawasaki was going to replace the belts with a better material, but I guess the sticker's cheaper. How am I going to remember when I have 27hrs on my machine? Why did't they send instructions on how to check it ourselves. Would someone tell me what is involved with taking the cover off and checking belt & and pulleys. Thank you.

If you have a 2000 you have the newer belt, The 1997 and 98 get new belt if OEM's are still on the ATV. I have two Prairie 400 4X4's and got letter saying to take it to dealer to have them check and replace belt if it was OEM.
I went to the only dealer left in Northern Va and they said OOPS can't help you till we talk to Kawasaki, since in their great wisdom Kawasaki only sent belts for machines that the dealer sold. I have to take it to the dealer I bought it from. Well Kawasaki took dealer franchise away from the dealer I bought mine from because they were bought out by a company that is on the stock market and that is a No No in Kawasaki's eye. But they did'nt send the belts to the only remaining dealer in Northern Va. DAAAHHHH!!! So I am waiting to see what to do.
I see big law suit if my belt breaks before the issue is resolved and I get hurt.

I have Vacation plans to take my AVT's to Hatfield McCoy. I have been saying that I am going the first week they open the trail since I heard about itover a year ago. So because Kawasaki can not get belts to the dealer I am suppose to cancle my vacation. I will not be about to take the time off for another six months because I will be starting a new job and have worked this vacation around it.
The letter also says nothing about not riding. it say to stop riding if rpm are higher or belt slipage starts. I was just making a staement that Kawasaki should have made arrangement to have the belts shipped to the ONLY dealer in Northern VA.

if i were you i would call kawasaki and explain your situation..im sure it wouldnt be too complicated to ship a belt to the last dealer in your area..explain to them your dilemma about vacation, and if they cant get a belt to you ask them about compensation for a rental..im sure they`ll help you out..i do beleive they stated not to ride the atv until it had been inspected

so ppl go out and trust they are buying a quality product, and believe that they dont have to worry about not getting hurt. so they ride the product, keeping up on all the maintenence and one day the machine has an A-arm fall off... hmmmmmmm this sounds like ground for sueing to me. If you cant trust them why ride them?? I'd sue...

I just saw this topic and have heard nothing about a belt check or recall. I have moved in the last 18 months, so maybe that is why I haven't been informed. I have a 1997 4x4 Prairie. Does this apply to my machine?
I'd appreciate any information you have.

Hold on guys, I'M gonna sue some body? give me a break. kawasaki has the ***** to say the have had some problems with the older kvfs I have personally sold well over 150 plus units.4 belt replacements folks, thats it , maybe education is needed, If kawasaki is watching maybe they should explain more to internet public, care, prevention, proper hi/lorange selection, etc. 1 kawasaki judged recall campaign when dealer meeting was scheduled in vegas (sending notification of recall) so there was some confusion at the dealer ships, also i recived a letter this week explaining what days info was released (chain of command thing?)customers and dealers recived letters at same time? time and patience is needed .there is more to this than i can touch on,I have had a on slought of calls every day,i am taking approach of oldest first& special situations.then work our way up.Rider saftey is the main concern, explain to your dealer your needs,if they can help your vacation be safe.they have gained a customer. this letter is my own opinion. BTW sticking your head in the sand will only get you run over,Sueing the big 4 is what started the govt all over our buts causing the delation of models, higher retail prices, unduely restictions, etc. Kawasaki is a very saftey minded co. Dealers also want to see their customer at the shop or riding not 6 foot under my reguards mike ok now i have vented,

I have called Kawasaki Customer Service and all they said was get the belt inspected before I go on vacation. I called dealer twice about getting belt ispected and they have not got back to me. All I want is my belts replaced before I go on vacation. i have two Prairies built march 97 both with over 400 hours on them I am calling the dealer one more time tomorrow and seeing what the story is. Hopfully will get my belt before thurs as my truck is going in the shop friday and Sat morning I am leaving for vacation. All I want is two safe ATV's. This is Kawasaki's fault for only sending 4 balts two the only dealer in Northern Va. THEY BLEW IT. When I bought my ATV's there where four dealers in Northern Va.
