Default Fouled Plug after trailering

Twice after trailering my ATV's one of them seems to have a fouled plug after removing from the trailer. All machines are well maintained and pretty new. The one in question is a 2005 Kaw 250 Bayou, has about 55 hrs on it. It rides in the nose postion of a open trailer, Bayou runs like a scaled dog, but when we load it, haul it, can't get started to take off the trailer. Plug seems to be foulded out. Put a new NKG in and starts on the 1st bump over. The fuel is shut off every time units are parked/hauled. Bayou runs great around the farm. The others on trailer are a 05 700 Prarie, 03 300EX, 03 Bayou, 04 YFZ450. No others have this problem. Told dealer about it, and before I completed the hole story, he said I bet its the first one on the trailer. He said, they have heard of this because of the fuel tank vent tube becoming pressureized by wind turbulance. Dealer is a trusted freind/Case IH dealer. Has anyone else had of or heard of this? If so, whats the remitiy?

i have an 03 bayou 300 and i have had plugs foul on me while transporting. and my machine rides in the back of the truck. i also had the fuel switch off . my dealer kept trying to tell me that i kept it on, he said it should not foul. but i am just like you, i put in a new plug and she fires right up. so you are not the only one in the boat.

Wow, that's very interesting. Hmmmmmmmmmm........................

Sounds like your friend is a very good mechanic. I have no idea if he is right, but sounds like he thought it through.
The way to check it is to take a 8/32 screw and jam it in the fuel vent and pop it on the trailer and give it a little ride. See if it happens with the screw in the vent.
Another way is to pop the plug out when you get to the place you want to ride. Turn it over with the plug out. See lots of fuel vapor coming out? If so, your friend is correct and the carb is getting a pressure signal somehow?
How dose the oil smell after your trailer trip?

After having two fuel shutoffs go bad on me, I would take the line off the carb and verify that it actually shuts off the gas. both of mine went bad and allowed fuel to flow in any position. good luck.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, not enough time to try in the week. Will look into more this weekend with the shut off, ect. Something else I wonder if it may add to or compound whatever is going on is that so far its only done it on the return trips, (ie on 1 trip was 250 mi and 1 that was 75 mi) and the fuel was less than 1/4 full each time. Outbound they are full and ready to ride. Haven't seen any oil increase in sight window but will check for fuel in oil. Didn't really think much about it the 1st time, 2nd makes me wonder though.

Had the same thing happen on my praire 300 4x4, now after loading I open the fuel drain on bottom of fuel bowl let the small amount of fuel run out. Have never fouled a plug since. When you reach your destination, open fuel valve and wait for 15-20 seconds before starting, must let bowl fill back up. This practice is also a safer way to travel. Good Luck !!!

sounds like a good idea, but mine needs an allen wrench to drain the carb, and its a pita to reach, is your 300 the same?. Also at over 2 bucks a gallon, im not letting a drop of it get away. Another way to achieve that is to turn off the fuel and run it until it dies, this was my first indication something was wrong as mine would never die with the gas off.

Vent tube becoming pressurized, wow thats a theory. Im interested to see if you can reproduce when you vent the tank some other way. My P650 was drowing itself until I bypassed that tank vent in the rear. I simply put a fuel filter back there so it could breath and bad stuff couldnt go up hill into the tank. Is your vent blocked/pinched?

Bummer, my 300 is a flat blade screwdriver easily accessable. Can drain it in seconds. To the response of letting it run until it
runs dry....you are using the same amount of fuel if you drain it !! If I know I am comming in to go on the trailer, I will shut off the gas a few minutes before I get there to run most of the fuel out then I don't need to drain the bowl. I have given serious thought to getting a 650 machine but the many problems I have been reading about, makes me think I will keep my old reliable
300 4x4. It may not be the fastest, but has gotten me everywhere I have ask it to take me with no problems!!

I wouldnt put all my reliability faith in these forums. Remember if you are out here you are probably an enthusiast, and likly doing somthing that puts you on the fringe

I just leveled the front of my 60,000 yard. I was shocked how well it worked with the blade. Lots better than a little tractor with a blade.

Just reading forums I wouldnt buy a brute, but I think the Prairie is certainly a proven platform.
