wall mart is an evil empire that will someday rule the earth
wallmart went down to mexico and tryed to buy a chain of stores, 32 total. the court said no because of some (fancy word here). well they bought 29 of those stores, lowered all of the prices till the other 3 stores closed.

south park ppl arent dummies.

Just messin with ya. I hunted several years in Garvin and Murray counties for whitetail and shot some pretty decent ones. The first doe I shot here dressed at 210. I about pooed myself. Now, I hunt in the Snowy Mountain Range and geez the deer are huge. I blew a shot on a huge 5x5 last year. I was sick. You should get back up here and hunt some Wyoming deer. I use the Pure1s, arguably the best you can buy.

Walmart does suck. Give your business to Napa, Auotzone, Carparts etc.
Do a little googling on wally world, directly responsible for the collapse of Huffy Bikes, Levi, Stanley lock, a long long list.
Walmart today is NOT the place Sam Walton started. I try NOT to give them any business. They are effectively guaranteeing your wage will stay low.

No pun here, I'm just curious, how can you guys claim what oil filter is the best or highest quality. How can YOU prove that? Do you work there? Are you a scientist with laboratory results showing measured dirt removal? Can you prove the filtering micron size?
I respect your opinion, thats fine, but to claim your choice of filter is the best could be going to far.
I've paid $3 to $12 for filters and have never noticed any difference.

I just get a chuckle out of that, people claiming which brand makes the best oil filter, or spark plug etc. You can't even see whats in them, and marketing claims of a certain paper/filter folding process etc. etc. blah blah blah..."smoke and mirrors"
We all ride in different conditions, some filters may be better for certain people then others. MY 2 Cents

Good read

Yamihoo, I chased this oil filter trail down when I was shopping for high perf motorcycle filters. I use the same Pure1 in my bike as in the Prairie (14610).

This is one of the best sites you will find.

http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Fil...tml#OilFilters

Oil and oil filters are like religion Notice I said "arguably"

In comparison of micron filtering you have to trust the manufacturers, and in that case the Pure1s are on the top of the heap. There are sites out there that cut apart filters and show you the guts, the Pure1s do well in these too. I guess I have made my leap of faith and chosen my religion, lol

Default cant i just get it at walmart?

five-six years ago, I was a subscriber to Consumer Reports.
They did a huge thing about oil and filters.
The results were: ALL regular oils are made at only a few facilities and marketed under dozens of brand names- the exeptions were penziol- and the parafin based motor oil didnt do that well, unless you changed it more frequently, then it was marginally better.
Multi wieght oils did a bit better than fixed.

They are all the same! Buy the cheapest motor oil you can get.

synthetics: I forget, but the worse was vastly superior to any standard oils. I run synthetic in all my motors once they are broken in.

Filters HUGE HUGE difference. Fram was one of the lower brands. I'm certain there have been changes in the last 6 years. Theres a real difference in cheap paper filters, they "flowed" more but filtered less. Some house brands would get paper blow by! The paper chunk got wedged in the oil pan screen (they tested a poor chevy small blocks on stands) Stay away from sale cheap filters IMO.
I just spent a few minutes seeing if I could find the aritcle, but the wife aint around so I'm lost.
Get a good filter.

Plainsman, thanks for the link, interesting.

Everything I say is IMO,
but I am the hardest skeptic you'll ever meet. I rarely believe what I read anywhere. All I believe is what I see with my own eyes. Any study ever done by anybody is usually done for a reason, a purpose of course. Which usually is not just for fun, but to promote a product. Depends on the motivation or drive behind the study, which tends to bias observations etc. I work in engineering, see it all the time.

I have seen K&N (Air) filters allow more dirt in my vehicles. My oil gets dirty and darker much quicker than with an OEM filter. Makes sense, more air flow, more dirt. Micron size matters, but when the air flow and pressure is higher, strange things happen. Its possible for a 30micron particle to get through a 20micron hole if its under enough pressure and the filter media is flexible (i.e. cotton gauze K&N).

I will never put a K&N in my ATV after seeing what it does to a motor being driven on a road and not on a trail.

I haven't done extensive studies on oil filters, but from repeated observations of oil conditions and dissecting filters myself after use, I haven't been able to prove enough myself. I will usually purchase middle of the road oil filters.

I too have seen frist hand the poor quality of K&N, and once is enough, I wont subject any more engines to it.

So how do you choose filters/oil if you dont belive anything?

I use Mobil1 5-30 in my truck, and I know it starts better here in the cold; in summer I likly have little real reason for running it.

In the ATV I run 5-40 Rotella because its cheap and syntectic. It starts much better than dino when cold. In my bike I also run 5-40 rotella, but it offeres no better/smoother shifting than dino 20-40. Since that is the case I will likly swith to 15-40 Rotella in my bike, its $6gal, and the bike only is out when its warm anyway.

The fact that I use Mobil1 in my truck vs Penzoil/Halvoline/Rotella synthetic is simply because I have bought into marketing and GM uses it stock in the vette, BMW uses it ect. I have no first hand knowledge of it being any better than any other syn.

Like I said Oil is like religion, the only good thing is that you could take 10 engines, run 10 different oils for x years then tear them apart and see which was better; to prove which religion is correct takes a lot more and after you know you wont be posting on a forum
