Default Reliability of 2002 P650

I have a 2002 P650 (about 400 miles) and have been having some issues with it recently. I was wondering if you feel the 650 is reliable and if not why. Mine lost a fan switch and is currently leaking from the radiator. If I did not have the extended warranty this would cost over $750 to fix plus I have had over a month of downtime. I am even thinking about getting rid of it and getting another Honda. My Hondas have been great and NO problems. I don’t care about the extra power, it does me know good when it is sitting at the dealer anyway… What are your thoughts?

my brothers and friends prairie 650's have run great and they beat them pretty good. maybe a actuator problem here and there but they have run them pretty hard. i have a brute 750 and havnt had any problems but i dont beat mine like others because i just like to trail ride. i'm sorry you have had trouble with yours but i have found them to be pretty reliable. but i think your right about honda, my rubicon has given me no major problems and feels like it will last forever.

How do you like the Rubicon for trail riding. Some say it is a 100% utility quad, but it seems like it would be decent (maybe add a locker) and it would run forever....

I had an 02 650 and it was a good machine , did have a actuator prob. but was fixed free of charge, and you had to stay on top of the clutching , ya know shimming to keep the bark to a minimum.other than that I never had a severe prob. and in 02 that was the most powerful and most fun riding quad . rubicon is a great trail machine to an extent. very stable, handles well at low to moderate speed, good suspension at the same speeds. at higher speeds is where the hard handling and rough ride come into play. but a very fun atv. the steering in 4wd all the time is not as bad it sounds. i think the new ones maybe even a notch above. very nice bike.

3000 miles on my 02 P650 and I just now brought it into the shop for some minor work. I ride real hard and have some aftermarket items installed. Black spring, ICM, lift kit, 589's, etc. Only reason I brought it in was to replace the left side axle seal, which I prob could have done myself if I wasn't being lazy. I also had them do a few other things like check swingarm bearings (which were fine), adjust carbs and valves, rear brake adjust, just minor things that should be checked at first service or xxxx amount of miles. Overall i am very pleased with my atv and I basically just ride it. Been real reliable so far and I hope it continues. Happy Trails!

Friend of mine had his Rubicon stolen. He loved everything about it.

He replaced it with another identical Rubicon, and there's not much he does like about this one. Nothing about it regarding performance and handling is as good as his first one. Go figure.

I have had no problems with my P650.
