Ok.. i was riding it yesterday and it was fine. I went to start it today and now it won't start. My dad had left it out in the rain yesterday after i was done riding.. and just threw a towel on the seat.. I also have no air box lid. mayb water got in? I have a K & N on with no lid.. so Im thinking water got in the engine.
When i start it.. the starter just keeps going and going and never starts. Once in a while it feels as tho its gna start and then it doesn't. When i try starting it.. the air filter has a "sucking" sound coming from it.
I don't know why it won't start. Running fine yesterday... my dad left it in the rain.. now it won't start.. mayb it was the rain in the engine somehow? I dno.. but can someone help me? I am seposed to b goin to the track tomorrow wit a 660, 450r, 350 rappy and a KX85.. and i rly want to go! Thx.

 

yea sounds like water got in somewhere. id try a new plug and drain the carb bowl. if the k&n sounds diff. its prolly because of the water.

 

yeh i change my spark plug one day and washed it at the same time and my would not start soo i hooked it up to my buddys truck and towed it around the block and it started let it run for a little while and never did it not start again..... it would not hurt to try compresion starting it just stick it in 2 or 3 get moven and pop the clutch

instead of pulling it behind a truck you put it in like 3rd or 4th and hold in the cluth and have someone pushyou or roll down a hill or something and then dump the clutch this will move the tires and crank the engine.. usually it will start

 

so ur saying to roll it down a hill or get pushed with 3 of 4 gear with clutch in.. and then all of a sudden let the clutch out while moving? won't that hurt my gears?

 

You dont have to dump the clutch. Just let it out normally. Instead of using the starter motor to turn over the motor, bump starting uses the tires to turn over the motor. The higher the gear the easier the motor will spin over, usually 4th works the best, and you only need to be moving about 7 mph for it to start.
If it wont start after pulling for awhile...try 1/4 throttle while being pulled, then be ready to get off the throttle, or pull the clutch or hit the brakes, when it fires up, ..so you dont run into whoever is pulling you.
You might want to drain the carb float bowl, first. Its posible its got water in it, and thats why it wont fire.

 

ok.. what I am understanding is that u want me to roll down a hill in 4th with the clutch in and while rolling let go of the clutch and let it jam the gears to a stop? that doesn't sound right..

 

If the key is on...this is whats called bump starting or compression starting. The wheels are doing what the starter normally does...spin the motor over.
Instead of grinding away with the starter, and shortening its life, this is a much easier way to get the motor running. You dont have to find a hill...even a riding lawn mower, or lawn tractor will do, just hook up a tow strap, turn the key on, put it in 4th, pull in the clutch, get moving, and let the clutch out. The motor will start spinning over, and if the motor has gas, has compression, and has spark...it starts.

 

I think that's the first time I've ever seen anyone not know how to "bump" start their machine.

I'm not picking, I'm just saying that I didn't know it was possible to not know that.

And for the record my KFX will bump start in 2nd gear just fine without really locking the tires, so I don't think 3rd is even needed. But it would work too.
