HELP!!! Winch Installation
#1
I am looking for a good place to mount the solenoid for my Ramsey 2500lb winch. I thought about looking for a place under/behind the seat, but the cables that go from the winch to the solenoid seem to only be about 3 ft. I am starting to regret doing this installation myself,,,,,, the mounting plate doesn't seem to be fitting the way it should. Any pointers?????

GR: I'll see if I can help you here! I see you have 300,I have a 650 but, they might be the same setup.
If you take off the front plastics you'll see a black plastic pan in the front of your handle bars. My solenoid
my remote ( I also have a Ramsey 2500 w/ remote) are afixed to this plastic pan. I feel that's a good place
1. It's up high so water really can't getter there 2. If I have to do any maint. I can get at it without going
around frames and other wires. On the 650 there's a 12v assessory to hookup either your winch, lights or
whatever? this will be your main feed. If you you have thick wiring then just go from winch to your battery
feed wires along frame rails ( you might want to use zip ties to tie to frame) There should be enough room
on that pan to hold your solenoid. Mine does also the remote. You should also use dielectric grease on all
connections this keeps a good electrical connection and keeps water from corroding yor connections. As far
as your winch mount you should an "L" shaped bracket in which you bolt to your bumper in front of this you bolt your RollerFairlead. So once again 1. You mount your winch on "L" bracket ( use med. locktite on mounting bolts)
2. You run thick cable wires one + one - up to pan on solenoid. 3. Then you either use 12v plug or run wires direct
to battery( I did this so I could 12v for lights) and then you should be ok! Don't forget use zipties if your running
any wires to under your seat. PM me if you need more HELP!

Hey GR: Just a followup on your problem. I went to Kawasaki .com and went to parts diagram and looked up your
bike and it does'nt seem you have a "pan" or some sort of shroud that's in front, so I thought maybe you could
mount a plate (Steel.Plastic etc,) to that cross member between the strut or shock towers. This way it's high enough.
I don't know if you have enough clearance between your front plastic and this crossmember but I think there is a rubber bushing which is about 1" to 11/2" that should give you enough clearance. That bushing goes between the
front plastics and shock tower in case you were wondering. Anyway let me know how you make out!

Brusier,,,,,quick question,,,,,,,, what about mounting the solenoid underneath the plastic rack behind the headlights????? Seems like it would be fairly easy to get to if needed and it would be out of sight,,,,,,, just a thought!!!!

GR: I guess that would be ok but,I think you might need something more solid, if you get to bouncing around.
That's why I suggested that cross member between the shock towers. Isee you have a lift kit so as far as clearance, I think you might have enough room. What the Hey! try both!

OLd: I removed my handlebar plastics drilled a hole in the rear plastic ran my wires and srewed toggle switch
down. Kind of tight there but, GREAT place to operate. Drilled hole right next to multifunction meter.

Brusier,,,,,,, well, I got it working, and I was able to hide the wires pretty well. I ended up mounting the solenoid on top of the tool box on the rear of the bike...... I just had to swap the wires with the winch/battery/solenoid. Thank you very much for all of your help...... I just need to finish dressing it up and tie wrapping the wires in a safe place.
