about the Bayou 220

Im considering this quad for my brother, what information can you guys tell me about it. How reliable is it, how much juice does the 215cc engine crank out. Power is not a priority but I dont to get him something pitifully underpowered either. Im posting in here to get your views on this machine, and on the yamaha board to get comparisions to the beartracker.
thanks

This is a good quad, having good power (your not gonna be kicking any banshee ****) but it will do atleast 45 mph mantained properly. It has decent lights, and a smooth shifter/tranny. My main complaint is the suspension - it does perfectly fine on the small normal bumps, but dont expect to not have "whiplash" if getting more than 4 feet of air :-) BTW its low maintenace, but make sure to keep it well oiled and clean the air box every once and awhile. Hope this helps...

I own a '97 model that has performed flawlessly while being used to hunt white-tailed deer. Definitely more of a utility machine with excellent low-end torque for it's size. Older kids looking for more speed may soon feel they need something bigger.

I purchased mine in 99 as a used 95 model. It mechanically has been great. I trail ride with it and hunt with it. It has been riden fairly hard. I agree that it is not made to jump very high, it comes down hard and painfully. It does have good torque and power is decent. I put more aggressive tires on back and it helps in the mud and water. It was rolled once and had no real damage. It was also rammed into a tree at a fairly good clip and required a complete frame replacement because the front of the frame was bent badly. It works fine after the repairs.
