Bayou 220 toe in
#1
Well, just got my brother his bayou 220 and was wondering if it is normal for the front tires to be in a \ / like position. My Kodiak also has them like that but not nearly as slanted. Is this normal and is there a way to adjust it ?

It is normal. I changed the shock to the lower hole on the a-arm. a squared the front in up. I had to bent the lower hole slightly. I appears to be working great so far. I did this for my wife,105 pounds non agressive driver. Handles alot better, and turns more percise using no more sterring effort than before. A friend of mine rode it yesterday 215 pounds, seemed a little toed out not much. Did not seem to bother the handling. Took me 20 minutes to change shocks to lower hole. Might try it to see.

CAUTION, I did as you recommended and put put the shocks in the lower hole and after one trail ride the tires are now toed out too much and wont turn back in. I even put them back in the top hole and the tires remain out, I think im going to have to replace the shocks, I think its best to leave things as they are.

As i mentioned in my post my wife is only 105 pounds and not evil kenivel. She rarely gets past 3rd gear. I estimate the life span of the tires and brakes to be 10 plus years. Remember i have also said i am no mechanic. But i would like to know why the lower hole is there.

This wasnt a rough trail though, it was just a long sandy trail with hardly any bumbs and after 1 hr or riding the tires went from | | to / \.

I believe that the extra hole is for people that decide to buy aftermarket shocks for their quad that have more suspension travel, if they won't work in the top hole. But given the travel of the stock shocks they were only meant for the top hole. The bottom hole may be putting some kind of pressure on the shocks that they were not meant to be subjected to, because of the change of the angle that the shocks are positioned at, on the second hole it may be bending them. (or something) I dunno!!! just a thought, but it might not be true. maybe you were just unlucky
.hope you get it to work right again!!
