Default KEB problems-Dealer is clueless

Hey Guys, Here is the deal. I had the 2wd 4wd flashing for a little while and took it into Kawi to get it fixed. They changed the engine brake actuator but it still did not fix it . They ended up having to order some arms that go from the EB to the clutch and that fixed the problem. But there is another problem that they can't seem to fix. It you ride and let off the gas and let the engine brake slow you down, once you hit 2mph there the brake quits and the machine will creep along at 2mph unless you hit the brake and stop yourself. I had it do this before I had the engine brake fixed and it is still doing it. They worked on it for 2 days and finally said it was fixed. Now 1day later it is still doing it. They tried all kinds of stuff. They said they switched out the speed sensor, belts, clutchs, and maybe some other stuff. They said that the belt deflection was in spec but what fixed it was that they set the belt right at what it was suspose to be at. I think they have the belt a little tight because I get a squeel sometimes at idle. Anyone else have this problem?

Let me make sure I undrestand this, you get going & the engine braking wont kick in until about 2 mph?? I have never checked has fast it's going but it wont kick in until you start moving, let me give an example I was riding a very steep mountain yesterday, if I was at a dead stop & let her start rolling the engine braking wouldnt kick in until my wheels started moving (1-2mph) then in 4x4 & low it would yank me to almost a stop
& from there on it would let me just kreep down the hill & wouldn't let go until I came to a complete stop. So if you have some sort of delay there I think this is normal... Meausure how tight the belt is, shouldn't squeel on take off, belt might be worn out..

Okay I just read your post again your saying it lets off once it hits 2mph.. If your in H it & 2wd it dont work as good as 4wd & L , try this find a steep hill put it in 4x4 low & see if it's still letting go, if it is your belt might be too loose (wich would explain why you have a squeel on take off), I had this problem a long time ago & if I remember right this was the problem..

What I am saying is if I ride on flat ground say 30mph, let off the gas and let the KEB slow me down, once it hits 2mph the engine brakes stops slowing me down and then it keeps moving forward by itself at 2mph until you actually make it stop. The dealer has never seen it do this before and Kawi themselves, some say it is normal some say not but none have a clue what is causing it. It like the KEB won't make you stop all the way. Its like when you slow to 2mph it keeps moving forward slow just like you had your finger on the gas a little bit. I know what you are talking about going down hills and such but this is on flat ground. The belt don't squeel on take off either, just at idle sometimes. Dealer said they shimmed it and it is just a hair tight with the shim.

There's nothing wrong with your KEBC. However, either your actuator or your CDI (yes, the CDI) may have failed. My Prairie suffered the same thing. The quad was in the shop for 4 weeks before they figured out the ignitor (CDI) was bad. Then later we find out there was a recall for these. Most of use only view the CDI as an ignition device, but somehow it also ties in with the other electronics on the quad.

Sounds normal to me. Mine slows until about 2 mph then lets go, and it coasts, unless I blip the gas and then the KEBC starts working again....
Haven't you seen the posts here saying you may actually have to give it a little gas to keep the KEBC working.....?

Is this what's happening to you....?

I think what he's saying is that the machine isn't coasting, but being driven at 2 mph When my ignitor failed, you actually had to hold the brake to keep the machine at a standstill.

The machine isn't coasting, once it hits 2mph the brake shuts off or seems too anyway and the machine with keep going down the road at 2mph. I hopped off the machine once to close the gate just at the machine was about to stop, I turned around and the machine was going across the field by itself. If it is uphill it will stop because of the gravity slowing it but on flat ground it keeps going. It idles fine, you don't have to hold the brake or anything at idle. Its like the KEB stops and something is letting it go at 2mph.

Yup that is kind of wierd...

Have you removed the belt cover and inspected the belt's tension??? seems like a couple guys had ideas on the tightness/loosness of the belt...
