Brute needs to go in, but have Q's
I have an 05' Brute 750 that I purchased in August 04 and am finally getting to take it in for its first service. What kind of service do the dealers perform the first time and what things should I have them look at while it is there? I know there is a warranty issue with the tie-rod ends but what else is there that I dont know about? Is the Brute supposed to backfire a lot? Anything to help it warm up quicker? Any help would be great!

The dealer changed all the fluids, checked/adjusted the belt and checked the valve adjustment when I took mine in.
There is no reason for your quad to be backfiring "a lot." I'd have them check that out. I think there were some BF750's that weren't jetted correctly from the factory. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that could be your problem.

I had and still have some backfiring issues with my BF. I originally had the low end miss and backfiring , I took to the "stealership"
and they told me I was running leanand they adjusted the carb to run richer. The miss and backfiring continued after that so I took it back and they finaly rejetted the front carb.
but it still had a slight miss and the backfire I had previously asked them to check my plugs since they richened the machine for me but when I checked my plugs after getting it back from them I found my front plug was as black as black can get. I cleaned my plugs and adjusted my idle up a bit which relieved the miss but I still have the backfire. I don't know if you have the same type of backfire I do but I'll describe mine. My backfire occurs when I run my machine at high speeds then let it coast down, at about 20mph I get a nice crack out of the exhaust. Friends riding behind me saw a nice 3 foot flame shoot out with the backfire.

Let me adress these issues for you:
1. The backfire / miss is not normal. The fix is to have the front carb needle replaced with the same part number as the rear carb needle. This should be a warranty fix, I paid nothing for my upgrade and have close to 3000 miles on my Brute.
2. The first service entails changing the oil & filter, front diff fluid, rear diff fluid, clean air filter, & check all bolts for proper tightness. There is NO reason to have the valves checked and the Kawi Service manual says that the valves should be checked once a year and says nothing about doing this at the initial service. Same thing for the belt. The belt needs to be checked every 100 hours or 1000 miles and that's it.
3. The tie rod issue has been on a machine by machine basis. many of us, like me, have had NO trouble with the tie rods. I have almost 3K miles with some rough riding and they are fine. Others say that they break if you look at them wrong. There is NO current recall on them and the jury is still out on this. I will say that most of the problem tie rods just happen to be on machines that have HUGE tires and other crazy mods. Thay might have something to do with it.
So, from the Kawi manual, the three fluids, air filter element, & bolt-check are all that's needed.
