KFX 450?
You'll probably see somthing by this time next year. I know they are working on somthing. You are also correct in that the new quad will be built independantly from Suzuki's soon to be unveiled 450...Heck, even the new quad's engine is different from their 450mx'er.
As for things like EFI, electric start, race suspension, or frame material, I don't think they are far enough along in the development process to take a guess as to what they have in mind.

KFX 450?
I wouldn't doubt it if they do gear it towards xc racing. I think it would be a good idea for Kawi to do so, to stand out a little. But they should make it a 450 not 500 for the simple fact that there is still some die hard Kawi fans that MX.
