KFX700 fan-How often should it come on?
How often is normal for the fan to run on a new kfx700?
I took it out for the first time, riding easy (staying under 1/2 throttle) for break in. We were trail riding in about 90 degree weather and the fan seemed to come on alot. I've had some people tell me they hardly hear their's come on at all and want any feedback I can get. Thanks!

I'm sure the ambient are temp would affect this fan on/off topic a great deal. However I will say that my Father's kfx700 has a strange fan. It seems to run a lot more than my z400 fan but than it is cooling almost twice the engine. His fan also comes on with the key off, while mine will not and most other quads I've seen do not.

My experience is when the bike is new the fan would run more. If the rad is clogged with mud it would run even more. I don't worry about my fan running as long as it shut's it self off in a reasonable time. I am more concerned if my fan doesn't turn on. I watch my temp light constantly. Water wetter / purple ice would be recommended in warm weather, but you can not use additives below freezing, so I have to flush it out every year. All kawis fans will come on if it's too hot when the bike is off. I also don't go from wide open to a full stop because the air flow is greater in motion.

Remember that you are breaking the new engine in on your KFX700. Naturally, all the fresh metal is violantly wearing into each other and is seating into place. This whole process generates a fair more amount of heat over the same engine with 500hrs on it. If it isn't getting hot than don't worry about it, after a few more rides you will probably notice it coming on less in the same ambient temps as the engine wears into itself.
An engine sees the most heat internally than it generally ever will (as long as it isn't ran completely out of oil at some point) on it's very first start up.
In 90*+ heat the fan on my Polaris Scrambler runs about 75% of the time, it's hot outside. 80* and below and it's on probably 35% of the time.
BTW, how do you like your new KFX700? After I recently found out it's a twin with an auto I got REALLY interested in them.... if only it was 4wd! Polaris will probably drop in their 700 twin into the 4x4 Scrambler chassis soon, if not I might look for an used KFX700...maybe.

The fan comes on whenever the coolant temp reaches around 196F - that's how often it comes on. The fan circuit switch closes at that preset temp.
Just make sure coolant is full and not leaking and keep riding. You've still got the factory basic 6-mo warranty left anyway. Nada to worry.
