pipe for a mojave?

What ever you do dont get a dg pipe. My tires hit the sliencer and it broke off. DG also said it was not their design so they will not replace the pipe. What wrong with these companies. Look and the 400ex pipe they finally made an aftermarket pipe with an indentation oon the pipe so the rear brake caliper doesnt know the pipe off.

supertrapp - don't waiste time and money on anything else for the mojave. I have seen and tried them all except the big gun. I can't use it because the tapered head pipe will not work well with a ported head. The next best thing you can do after a pipe, filter and jet is get some good shocks.

The Cobra JET pipe is the best pipe for a Mojave money can buy. I have also tired just about every pipe for a Mojave except a Big Gun because like he said, the tapered head pipe doesn't work good with a ported head. I have acess to a Dyno and out of all the pipes I've tired the Cobra had to most HP. Next was a DG RCM. Supertrapp isn't really that good because of the discs. It is hard to get tuned right and defeats the purpose of a free-flowing exhaust. Only get the Supertrapp if you have to have a Spark Arrester, if you don't get a Cobra JET.

The cobra pipe will make good power but if you ride trails, especially on public land, you need a spark arrestor. The Supertrapp can be run without the disc if you like and then it is really just like a Cobra with no restriction. Why not have the ability to choose whether you want disc on or not. The Cobra pipe is also way too loud for me. The supertrapp has a deeper tone that is not quite as annoying. Be sure to get the race series and not the quiet series because the race has a straight through silencer. Tuning is not really that hard and makes the pipe more versatile. You can run a smaller number of disc and actually increase low end power over a free flowing system. Or you can add disc and increase power at higher RPM ranges all the way up to removing all the disc and having basically the same pipe as the cobra jet. I really like the IDS2 supertrapp pipes. The clamp on spark arrestor for the cobra pipes is really cheesey too.

What do yo meen Big Gun's work bad on ported motors. I have a big gun on my ported head and the thing runs awsome. Of course it's all top end after I got it ported and I noticed just as much of an improvement over stock with the porting as I did when I put on the exhaust. Should I have noticed more of a difference? Would it be better if I swithched to a 4" racing supertrap with open end cap? These are the best performing pipes I have seen at the race track except for the big guns which seem to work the best.

I think you would like the IDS2 Supertrapp. Good sound to it and a wonderful company to deal with if you have any problems. I believe either way you want to go, quiet or racing, they are interchangeable. I have the quiet and love it. I run about 8 disks and have a really cool sound, in my opinion, not too loud either. The increase in power I receive made it well worth the money for me.

The big gun exhaust for the mojave is built to match the stock port on the head. The head pipe has is made to match the stock port where it bolts to the head and then is stepped up in size or tapered so to speak more and more until it reaches the silencer. this is done to speed exhaust flow and reduce turbulence that is caused when the exhaust leaves a small port into a bigger pipe. Big Gun does this to help low and mid range power. If you port the exhaust side of the head very much than the port is larger than the entrance into the pipe. This means your exhaust is being forced through a pipe that is smaller than the port from which it exits. This is not a good thing for performance. Call Big Gun and talk to them. I called them about there pipe because i really wanted one, after some discussion about their pipe they were explaining about the port match head pipe. I told them that I could not use their pipe if that was the case because I have done a large amount of porting on my head. They agreed that I should not run their pipe on a ported head.

Mojaveracer, I just wanted to add something to my other post explaining the Big Gun port matched head pipe. If the port job on the head was only a mild one that cleans up the port more than one that really hogs it out then the Big Gun should work like it was desighned to do. Its the port job that really enlarges the port that is a problem with the Big Gun.
