Default P650 primary spring

Hi Guy's, I have a 2003 P-650 with lots of mods as listed in my signature. I lost 3 MPH top end when I installed a p-700 primary spring. I had installed an EPI black spring last year in the secondary and that did not effect top end.

I am not looking for any more grunt bottom end (stall) as the Dyno module gives me more than I can use (wheelie or spins tires) I am looking for better top end(ONLY 60mph now) and better fast trail rideability.

getting your primary clutch machined will give you some more top end, or get lighter tires those dirt devils are heavy

You can also go to dalton industries site and look up the top speed clutch mod. That will help give you more top end.

The Dalton Overdrive cover only works on the 700 with the 2 angle sheave.

I would recomend trying the plain/white Dalton primary, but I see you run 27" DD's, that will definately kill your speed and holeshot.

Default P650 primary spring

I guess I did not explain my problem very well. My P650 would do 64mph with all of my current mods with exception of the p700 primary spring, now it does 59-60 since I installed the spring. So I was try to find an all around primary spring that would help in my trail performance but not KILL my top end. Let me just say top end speed is not a hge concern of mine as it has been this way for 6 months and it really has not bothered me that much untill a reset ride down the sugar river trail in NH which I was pretty much taped out for 15 minutes.

Do you still have your P650 spring? If so I'd try putting it back in just to make sure thats the issue. I'm not sure how different the 700 primary spring is, but it was probably designed for the 2 angle sheave, which the 650 doesn't have. This could explain the change in top speed.
Or I would recommend trying a Dalton Spring kit. Mechanically the springs shouldn't effect top speed, but that depends how much distance you have. Physically, the spring kit will get you there faster, with better acceleration, essentially reaching a higher speed in less distance, possibly increasing total top speed. You may have to up your stall with a stronger primary since your running heavy 27" tires, weather you want to or not.
I would try one of these combo's

Kawasaki 650/700, Prairie 4x4, Suzuki Twin Peaks 4x4 (stock, 0 – 2000’ elevation)
DK650/700S
Suggested list price CDN $82.50
Suggested list price US $64.00

This combination of a new, slightly heavier secondary spring and our plain/white primary spring, has resulted in better belt grip and an increase in bottom and midrange throttle response and acceleration. Better belt life and improved backshifting for off trail situations have made this kit very popular. For use with 25” – 26” tires.

Arctic Cat 650 4x4 (Stock & oversized tires). Kawasaki 650/700 4x4, Suzuki Twin Peaks 4x4 (Oversized tires 27 – 28”)
KA 6570MT
Suggested list price CDN $82.50
Suggested list price US $64.00

This kit combines our popular plain/purple secondary spring with a new primary spring that has slightly higher fully compressed load rating. This combination has proven most effective for the above
applications. This kit is also the best choice for HIGH ALTITUDE applications.

For more aggressive acceleration and higher engagement (race applications), some prefer to add our black/white primary spring Part # DPPS – B/W to the above 4x4 clutch kits.

Default P650 primary spring

Well I got a EPI bright green primary spring. I was going to get the Dalton white but it seemed that my 27" DD might need a little higher rpm stall. I am hoping to install it on Friday give a report.

If anyone has tried the Bright Green primary and black secondary please let me know.
