Really I am new to working on my brute but I just installed a HMF pipe and I think it's running a little lean. I got the jets from HMF and think I need to jet it. when I ran it it did not see to want to pick up speed at the top end at all. Go to 50 fairly quicky and then just did not want to do anything. Also if I replace the jets do I have to do anything with the needles? I have looked at KOD site but have not found the exact answer I'm looking for.
Second whats the easiest way to get to the jets? And how hard is it to install washers under the neddles?

Best bet is to do a High speed full throttle pass, keep the throttle open, hit the kill switch and coast to a stop. Pop out your plugs and look at color. Whitish color to light tan--tooo lean, Brown---just right, black-sutty too rich. if front plug is whitish, move rear jet to front and go up on size on rear. Most people with aftermarket filter and pipe are running Keihin jets size 142Front/145Rear carb.
Jets are in your carb bowls. I have an 02 and found the easiest way to remove bowls (After I install the .04 x .14mm allen head screws is to first remove the coils and fuel petcock. You can then get at them with allen wrench.
First thing however, you should check is to ensure all your vaccum hoses, carb manifold/intake clamps are tight. Airfilter is clean, nothing obstructing your air snorkel, and airbox cover & lid is correctly installed.
You can buy jets at your dealer for $7+ ea or order them in a 5 pack from Sudico on the web.
