may be done with kawi

I hate to say it, but after 6 years of 3 different kawis i may be done. I have an '05 BF750 with 180 miles on it and it may have broken all trust and faith in kawi. I was out riding yesterday and went to go over a log, nothing insane, nothing I havent done before with an atv; I had it in 4wd, diff locked and was on the gas with absolutely no motion from the tires. Instead my belt decide to start smoking. I stopped and went to go a flatter route and can hear some kind of slap. After listening closely it was coming from inside the belt cover, I took off the cover and was inspecting the belt, there were two portions of the belt that were worn away on the sides so I figured this must be causing the slap. I continue to ride out of the woods and my belt light comes on and the machine enters limp mode. A 5 month old machine with 181 miles on it, that I just received back from its first service, and a dead belt, that just doesnt seem right to me. To top it all off, I was at my dealers on friday to pick up a new helmet and was asking the mechanic if the needle was changed as per the service bulletin, which he said it was. We got to talking about other stuff on it when two mechanics procede to say this machine is a piece of $hit. I'm taking it in, hoping this is covered under warranty and possibly selling it. anyone want it? haha. Sorry for the long rant but I kind of needed to vent.

I honestly dont know; like I said I just got it back from the dealer for its first service and they said they had it almost completely apart. My '02 P650 was great and the belt on that was running strong. Besides the belt, I'm very upset with kawi's handling of the mud in the airbox(which they admitted to knowing and claiming its "working as designed"), I dont like the low speed miss of the machine, and the way the rear brake locks up at the diff when its cold(cable is fine). Its not just one thing that is causing me to decide this. I was pretty thrilled with my P650 and am regretting not getting another. We'll see what I decide, at this point I"m just very annoyed and disappointed that I went away for a riding weekend and only made it 18 miles.

Could it be your riders fault like running in hi when traviling slow speeds? Stuff like that. Because a defective belt and 2 dealer mechanics you are ready to give up on kawi? Haha you make me laugh. I state again dealer mechanics, all that they see are broken machines, they don't see all the other machines not broken. I could go to my dealer and one day the techs say honda is junk, the next they are complaining about suzuki. I wouldn't go on just what you have posted as a reason for dumping kawi.

CVT belt is a consumable item. And its life heavily depends on how you use it. It can fail within 18, 180 or 1800 miles. I've seen a 20 yr old guy with BF750 less than 100 miles and he's on his 3rd belt. He's all pissed off and says that's his last Kawi. Then I met an old man with P650 at the Rocky Mtn Utah ATV Jamboree still on his original belt with 4000+ miles and he loves his Kawi. If CVT belt is made so tough that it would not fail in any condition, something more expensive part in the ATV would fail. SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE. And the cheapest (also the easiest to replace) part in the trans "belt" did, as it was designed to do so. Breaking belt can happen on any brand. I bet Kawi doesn't even make CVT belts. They just buy from a belt vendor and slap it on their AVS. I would not trade in my car blaming that it is a junk because its fan belt broke. I have 1000+ miles on my original belt and didn't even have to adjust yet. Still no slipping, no squeaking noise, and still runs like new. But I usually ride easy and don't try to go over the obstacle even though it's tempting - I go around it if I can.

I'll probably be keeping it, I was just extremely annoyed at the time. There really isnt anything else there I would want to trade it for anyways. It'll be sticking around and I'll be carrying a spare belt from now on. Can anyone suggest a spring for the BF750 all stock? I know my P650 snapped better when I put an EPI in it. Thanks guys.

Glad to hear it, I have 600+ miles on my brute, and I try the obstruction and then some! I ride my machine hard. No slapping or slipping as of yet. But I expect I will need a belt in the near future.
