Looking at my post I wasn't really that clear about whether I actually did the install or not. I did do it and no problems.

It went just as described by the other users. It took me about 50 minutes, but if I'd had another one to do I could have done it in 20 minutes I bet. Kind of like putting together that complicated Christmas toy for your kids ... takes a while but then you're an expert on it.

So, if you just did an '09, Kawasaki is still doing the same thing it sounds like. Speedo isn't standard but the wire bundle is sitting in there just waiting. Not sure why they don't just make a $100.00 part standard.

I just use mine on a deer lease so the speed information isn't really critical. I do want to keep track of time for servicing it though. You could install a Hobbs meter somewhere tied into your elec and oil system for tracking hours, but the factory unit is about 100 bucks and is much better looking.

Just found this old thread. I'm installing a factory speedo on my 09 Prairie. I know where to find the leads but am stumped on how you tighten the speedo head. I took the two screws out of the plastic coverer with the speedo knock out and can not get it up and out far enough to attach the speedo bracket and nuts.

Is taking off the brake master cylinder required to give it enough flex in the cables to reach in behind to tighten it up?

Hi, it wasn't necessary to remove master cylinder. perhaps you have a cable or wire snagged onto something.
