Clickety Clickety..............

I adjusted my valves not very long ago, that is not many hours on the engine. Now when I start up the beast I can literally hear the valves clicking; yes, over my open air box and Supertrapp pipe. Is this normal or do I hafta go in for another adjustment..................

Questions:
1). Did you set to compression TDC (correct) or exhaust TDC when setting valves?
2). When you rotate the engine by hand to find the TDC from the left side of the quad, did you turn Counterclockwise (correct) or Clockwise?
3). Did you set when engine is cold (correct) or warm/hot?
4). Have you checked the cam chain slack? Sometimes the auto-tensioner get maxed out or becomes sticky. Take it out, check/clean the tensioner and feel the tension of the cam chain. You may need new of either or both of them.
Good Luck.

More tips on valve adj:
It is a good practice to write down the original measurement of the valve clearance before you adjust so that you can always go back if anything funny (or not so funny) happens right after your adjustment. On many Kawi quads, "typicallly", you should not have to turn the adjustment screw more than 1/4 turn CCW; on all my bikes it took about 1/8 turn even if I set at the max gap. If you have to turn more than 1/2 turn, you are probably at a wrong stroke. Also, you should be able to toggle the rocker-arm up and down a tiny bit (and hear the hitting noise) if you are at the right stroke. After a couple of valve adj, the clearance should almost remain constant and you would need to make very little adj if at all, as the valve and valve seat area on the head are all settled down.
Good Luck.
