Default Brute Ran Great Today, but Sounded Different?

I ran my 06' Brute 650 SRA for about 50 miles today after having changed all the fluids, (changing to AMSOIL), and after having installed NGK Iridium plugs. The machine acted normal up until around 45-65 mph. It seemed to have more ***** and hit 65 as it always does pretty easily, but it just sounded slightly "harsher" sounding than she normally does. I cannot describe the sound except to wonder if the belt is getting loose does the machine's sound change? Maybe a dumb question, but I figured I would ask. I would say it more motorcycle type sound than how quiet the machine usually is. Of course the belt always squeaks a little and I hear that tapping sound while in low going over obstacles and stuff. I am not saying at all that the Moose, iridium plugs, and the AMSOIL did anything at all, but she definitely had more kick today. This was also the first time I ran it for a long time with the Moose module by the way.

hey, i would say that the wheeler is just breaking in. My brute sounds different than it did when i first bought it. Plus you put a module on it. Got rid of some factory detuning.

Thanks for the comment ToughGUY. I figured that everything mechanically is good, if not great as witnessed by how much she pulls from 50 up to 65ish. Just for good measure I should go in and check out the belt for deflection and wear. I have 1200 miles on her now, and haven't checked the belt once yet. I am such a freak when it comes to maintenance that any change in exhaust tone, tranny noise, or even a slight hesitation has me worried. I always run her in low under 20mph, never high, so I should be good to go with on ly 60 hours on the machine. I wish the gearing on this was like the V2 in that you can run her in low in the 40+ range. Mine sounds like it will explode in low gear once it hits around 32-35 mph.

Thanks again TG.

Hey bubba. My V2 started to sound more "broke in" a little bit ago to. I took it to my dealer and they checked everything, and it is still like new. (Just has a little more power!) I also have evryhting like diff fluid, and engine oil changed to synthetic, along with iridium plugs, and power cables. I get my Dynatek CDI end of this week, and cant wait!!.

Hey V2!

Let me know how you like the Dynatek. I want one pretty bad, but the wife said to chill on spending money because I just bought new Mudlites. I still want a winch, Kimpex rear box, and the dynatek, and then I will be happy....NOT, there are still ten other things I "need" for my Brute.. LOL

LOL! I have the Mudlites coming to the house on Wednesday and the wife said, "You are not going to put those on the four wheeler until those Dunlop tires wear out. Those are perfectly good tires. And I mean it." So guess what I will be doing next Saturday to give the tires a little help in wearing out! LOL!! Hmm, now I need to find a nice rocky place and practice powersliding all day long!

LOL!!! I bought tires and rims, mounted, so i put the new ones on and explained to the wife i now could use the old tires and rims as backup. You should save the stock tires for spares, incase you happen to shredd a new one, then you know you can still ride!

Yes, I think that is what I will say to her. Plus, it would be nice having those as a backup.

A side question here: This tire shop wants 12.99 per tire to mount the mudlites on my Brute....that is 52 bucks!!!! Geez, I didn't know it cost that much. Should I be looking for a cheaper place or something. What do you guys think?

That seems pretty spendy. I guess if you can get the beads broke on the tires yourself, its not to bad getting them off, and the new ones on. I personally havnt done it on my new things, but on my fourtrax (93) i changed a tire, and it was a pain in the a**, but i got it!! You just got to get it started coming off at one point, with a large flathead screwdriver, and pound it around the tire ti get the first rib over the rim, then your home free on the removal. Reverse for putting it on.
