Default help with my bayou 220

hi need some advice
i recently had the clutch discs change both types . i went to a kawasaki dealer to have it done
the the next chance i had to use the atv was in a 50 mi poker run in ny. with about 1/2 mi left to the ride the quad wouldnt go forward or reverse ?
nothing locked up it free wheeled and the engine was runninng fine and it would run through the gears but no forward or reverse motion.
i do say this i never took this atv on a 50 mi ride it ran for about 10 hrs straight in all conditions mud water hills etc
needless to say the next day i started it up and put it gear and it rode like nothing happened i even tried a load test
backed it up to tree sat on it and throttled up in reverse the tires spun and dug 2 nice holes!
my Question is what happened the day before
and should i change the oil (maybe the oil deterioted)
i could use some help
ps i know now not to take a small guad on a 50 mi run (MY BUTT IS SORE)

Doesn't make sense unless they put something back together wrong inside???

If it were me, I'd adjust the clutch. Probably needs done anyway since the clutch was new. Take the two screws off of the cap to expose the clutch adjusting screw and locknut. (right side of engine) While holding the screw with a straight blade screwdriver, loosen the locknut (12mm wrench I think). Back off the locknut several turns or just hold it and turn the screw in clockwise 'til it stops. THEN turn the screw counter clockwise 'til it stops. Don't put any extra pressure on it...just counterclockwise 'til you feel resistance. Hold the screw in this position and then lock the locknut.

When you first loosen the locknut, notice the screw position. If you can turn it CCW more than just a "tad", the clutch was probably way out of adjustment which would explain why it was slipping. Doesn't explain why it suddenly works now though unless the fact that it cooled down?? I'd go ahead and change the oil and filter too incase some of the new lining material sluffed off the clutch discs. Any clutch material that is sizeable though would get caught by the screen near the oil pump pickup before it made it to the filter.

Don't know if that helps. If this doesn't help, it's probably time to pull the clutch cover off for a peek inside. Good Luck!

I would guess they didn't use a keeper or locktight on whatever keeps the clutch pack tight... I'd take it back to the dealer & have them fix it... it's likely something very simple...
