Brute 650i question
#1
I just bought a new BF and when I ride, it always sounds like I am over revving it, but it keeps going. Almost like leaving a car in first gear and pushing it up high in the RPMs. I am new to these fully automatic quads, but it sounds like I am killing it. Is it common for it to run this way?
Thanks,
Escham

I have it in Hi gear. It just seems to be reving hi all the time from low speed up to 3/4. I haven't had it WOT yet since it is still new. Its like it is hung in one gear, but it still keeps accelerating.

If there is no problem:
If this is your first CVT quad, this may be normal. The engine would seem to rev higher than it should. That's the beauty of the CVT .... the belt engagement occurrs at the beginning of power band.
If there is a problem:
It could be the loose/stretched belt that's causing the engine to to rev higher. Check BD (belt deflection) and it should be any where between 24~28 mm - get a service manual if you would work it. It also could be oil contaminated belt that is slipping as well. Open up the CVT cover and check it out. Easy.

I am now sure everything, as far as the revving goes, is ok. I took it for a long ride today and it is a monster. I think i am not used to the CVT. It doesn't feel or sound like slippage. That thing is very strong. I am used to riding Warriors (been about 6 years though) and my dad's 95 Kodiak (still going strong). This quad is ridiculous. We went to Uwharrie National Forest today and rode for about 3 hours. My major concern is that is started to run hot (we were going at pretty slow and constant speeds) and the temp warning kept flashing. I am running 89 octane gas. What could it be?
I have read that there are coolants that work well for overheating. Is it hard to replace the coolant (draining, air in the system). Any suggestions?

Water wetter works or purple ice. Mix with the coolant. Also a cdi will help, because it advances the timing and it runs more efficiently and cooler.
I have the same problem riding with a slow pack. Now I always lead. My fan stays off and it works better.

Kawi's V-twin motors don't like running slow - not enough cooling and runs too hot. You just have to make sure your cooling system is at its top condition and there is nothing wrong with it. I installed a water temp gauge ($15 inc fittings) on mine to monitor the temp. I noticed within 7~10 minutes of riding it is already at 190F (sensor is inserted between the water pump and radiator) and the fan comes on a hot day.
To drain the coolant, just remove the hose fitting at the output of the water pump which is the lowest point in the cooling system.
